You know what? I'm willing to empirically test this as many times as it takes to reach statistical certainty about any conclusions we reach
Michael C. Rockefeller got shipwrecked in 1963, washed up on an island, and was promptly eaten by cannibals.

A peach papaya would really hit the spot
While Fruitopia went with a psychedelic, "groovival" aesthetic, for their first run design Fruit Works went with a Rusted Root-World of Science-Kokopelli-Pure Moods-Bath and Body Works-Canvas Farmer's Market Bag-Save the Whales-1996 ass aesthetic

Welcome, world-class talent, to our PSE institutions...

... that are all in budgetary crises from rug-pulling international student permits, in addition to flat or below-inflation funding to student grants, base tricouncil funding, etc.
Canada’s new government is investing big to attract world-class talent in science and technology — and become an innovation powerhouse.

New research in NCMR (@iacm.bsky.social) shows the social costs and benefits of initiating task conflict are different for women than men:

Women who introduce task conflicts see greater backlash (being avoided and seen as less communal), and benefit less (no payoff of being seen as agentic).

i think the biggest well-being move for those who are Terminally Online (🙋‍♂️) is this:

turn off notifications for likes and reposts

those notifications serve the platform, not you

Every so often I wonder if I'm overreacting for committing to no more US travel under the current regime

(I'm Canadian and usually go to a few conferences a year)

And then something else like this happens

Sorry folks, it's virtual talks only for the time being.

i can’t be the only one old enough to remember how much of the conversation of early twitter was devoted to designers hyperventilating about the dangers of dark patterns in software. idk how we went from that to All Dark Patterns, All The Time that we have now without any real discussion

News: Penn State University's faculty -- including full and part time professors at the main and satellite campuses -- have filed for a union election with the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board with SEIU Local 668, setting up the state's largest union election in decades.
SEIU, who are organizing the Penn State faculty into a union, are holding a rally in the rotunda.

I think one of the most dangerous features of the Saying Nice Things To Me Machine is that it gets us used to constant and lavish praise for every dumb idea we have.
So, when a critic says, “Ah hah! That app makes shit up!” A lot of people will nod politely. And then they will think to themselves, “Well, so does the newspaper, and so does Facebook, and so do politicians, and none of those help me do this task or say nice things to me when I ask them questions.”

One theme here is the speed of American institutional collapse.
“It took Erdoğan 15 years to do what Trump did in 100 days. If [Americans] do not accept the fact that this is a long game, and it will be brutal, I think you won’t have the patience and stamina to bear it.”

the one game where my inability to plan beyond one move or remember anything is actually a strategic advantage
Research using the Rock-Paper-Scissors game finds players who lost retained information from previous rounds, while this is not the case for winners:

workslop hits the library system
My colleague points out here that possibly one in seven requests to our library now may be assisted by LLMs.

When those point to fictional documents, that's a huge staff time drain. There's often no quick way to check if an undigitized primary source doc exists beyond physically pulling some boxes.

I heard there were some secret jaws

That snowflakes had in their open maws

But you don’t really care for eel bones do ya?
Finally have time to upload things to Sketchfab.

Here's the dead eel I found at an aquarium store!

Thanks to the generosity of the store owner, everyone can see the scary extra jaws these guys have!
