I’ve put some thought into how to introduce myself on a new platform. I’ll go with three categories.

1. Activism - I’ll talk about / repost things relating to:

•trade union campaigns
•social + racial + economic justice
•disability pride
•climate emergency
•political exasperation

This is the data that everyone in our sector needs to see.
This is what our unions should be shouting from the rooftops.
HE workers thousands of pounds worse off than we were 17 years ago.
And here we are! Literally every spine point is paying less in real terms than it was back in 2008. Spine point 5 (now replaced by the real living wage) is down by about 3.4%. By spine point 10, we're down over 10%. By spine point 23, over 20%, ultimately reaching a 22.1% reduction. 3/3

I was moved to tears with some of the powerful speeches and it serves as a reminder of how much space we have lost, and that must be placed at the foot of those in leadership that have failed our trans community. Let this be a reminder to us all to double down on our commitment to the cause.

I have taken some leave to have a break and visit my friends and comrades attending LGBT+ Conference in Edinburgh.

Whilst I am here I attended the Trans Day of Remembrance vigil at Edinburgh Uni.

Unless I'm missing something, further to the policy announcement this week a refugee who arrived irregularly could face a 30 year wait for settlement....
The UK government's proposals on changes to settlement (indefinite leave to remain) rules have now been published in a consultation paper, ahead of a statement from the Home Secretary to MPs shortly www.gov.uk/government/c...
Earned settlement
The government is consulting on how the current settlement system should be reformed and how those reforms should be implemented.

Even though the return envelope has prepaid 2nd class postage, I’m not risking it: my vote for Andrea Egan for Unison General Secretary got a 1st class stamp after work and is in a postal bag right now!

Today, I attended an event as part of the Campus Voices for Palestine speaking tour.

And I cried.

What a brilliant collection of speakers on scholasticide, colonialism, apartheid, complicity, and genocide.

protect libraries at all costs
One girl said “it doesn’t matter if you ban a book because everyone can find that information online” and then I blew their minds by talking about how your search history can be monitored and sold to the government without your permission, but your library borrowing history requires a warrant.

Employer contributions to Defined Benefit pension schemes are often included as part of an employee's "total reward package" but these contributions don't actually affect the amount of pension accrued by an employee. Accrual is based on income, not contributions, as set out in scheme regulations.

The conflation of everything under the meaningless and demeaning banner of "reward" is both deceitful and wrong.

No worker should not have to choose between decent pay now or decent pensions later.

100% agree with every point Kath makes here. I’ve already posted my YES vote for industrial action in the Higher Education pay ballot, and I can’t wait to also vote for Andrea Egan for UNISON General Secretary when that ballot hits my doorstep. 🗳️✊📢
Kath Owen, who represents Higher Education members on UNISON's NEC, is backing my campaign for UNISON General Secretary. Thank you Kath! ✊🏻

Posting my YES vote for strike action as part of UNISON in Higher Education’s national pay campaign - this year’s dismal 1.4% pay ‘rise’ is the latest in a long line of real terms pay cuts.
We deserve so much better.
