Eight Senate Dems Caved, and Caved Too Early

With one more week, Trump would have owned far more of the responsibility for SNAP and flight cutbacks.

Eight Senate Dems Caved, and Caved Too Early - emptywheel
The eight Democrats who voted for a deal to reopen government not just caved, but caved at least a week too early.

I'm assuming that every Senator who did not *explicitly* state they were against caving, are in the quisling party and need to be run out of D.C. on a rail!!
I'd like for someone in the dem caucus to tell us which senators were real no votes and which ones voted no because they were allowed to.

I guess we are, at least to the extent that any of us believed/trusted him and the rest of the Dem leadership to actually care about We The People...
He thinks we are all stupid
America is in the midst of a Republican-made health care crisis—a crisis so severe, so urgent, and so devastating for American families that I cannot support a continuing resolution that fails to address it.

I am voting NO.

Senators on the brink of retirement who lived full, wealthy lives and never feared the loss of their own healthcare voting for their constituents to die from their inability to afford the same is treasonous

Hearing "centrist" Dems tell me that Schumer was the Best They Could Do in the Senate made me literally ill, starting back in 2017. It's why I am not a Dem, even though I have never voted for (or supported) any Republican, since I was old enough to vote!!
oh, and don’t EVER say we shouldn’t demand more of elected democrats. a whole lot of them need to be replaced because they’re still too scared to do the right thing. don’t fucking settle. expect more.

(Or on November 4th, for that matter!)
Agree.

Sen Hassan, asked what will happen if Republicans don't carry out the deal, "Well, shame on them."

This is not what people were mobilizing for on Oct 18.

JFC, when Ro Khanna is a voice of reason, you can be sure you *really* effed up!!
Vote out Schumer, Gillibrand, and every Establishment Corporate funded Democrat. They've failed us repeatedly and have no idea how to lead. The Democratic Party will either die or transform into new leadership. It cannot survive in its current state.

The democrats are lying to our faces so openly they are not even attempting to keep the lies straight. This is absolutely the collapse of the senate democrats and an indictment of the entire party at the national level.

Every senator involved from the party chose to sell America out for their gain
Reporter: What do you say to your colleagues who say this isn't a fight, this is a capitulation?

Shaheen: We have a guaranteed vote by a guaranteed date…

Reporter: There is no guarantee that this will become law.

Shaheen: There was never a guarantee that it would be become law.

Caving now will teach Trump and Republicans that they can win any fight simply by threatening to cause terrible harm to regular people. no possible way that could have future adverse consequences

Here’s the list of the eight Democrats who caved:

⚫️ Catherine Cortez Masto
⚫️ Dick Durbin
⚫️ John Fetterman
⚫️ Maggie Hassan
⚫️ Tim Kaine
⚫️ Angus King
⚫️ Jackie Rosen
⚫️ Jeanne Shaheen

Their excuses don’t hold water. They betrayed all Americans who were counting on them to stand firm and keep fighting.

-Nov 4, millions of Dems turn out for landslide wins in VA, NJ, NY, CA, GA, many other places.

-Nov 9, eight "Dems" say "Oh, this nice Mike Johnson and Mr. Trump say they care about health. If they don't, well shame on them..."

Expel the yes votes from the party and cut off all their access to fundraising, then remove Schumer from leadership. Anything less is mealy-mouthed coward bullshit.
As this vote moves to the House, I stand with Democratic leadership as they refuse to rubber stamp the full-scale Republican assault on Americans’ health care and I am proud of the majority of Senate Democrats who opposed this vote.

Yeah - it suddenly affected *them*, not the people they were elected to represent!!
Maybe important to note it was the disruption in air travel that Democrats couldn't stand and not, you know, 40+ million people not knowing where their next meal was coming from.

Every single Democratic senator that votes to cave on this should be immediately ejected from the party, and the national party should immediately start running primary candidates in their districts.

There is no bipartisanship possible with traitors and fascists. You either fight, or die.

This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.
