Professor of mathematics education at the University of Delaware's School of Education. Former middle school mathematics teacher in Arizona. I wrote a book called Rough Draft Math: Revising to Learn. (Obviously, all views are my own.)

It would appear I am now a columnist at Inside Higher Ed. My first piece focuses on McCarthyism, censorship, and our current moment in higher education. This is an essay I started nearly 6 months ago so I'm glad to finally share it with y'all.

Friends, I was stuck in Puerto Rico for an extra day due to USA’s military actions in Venezuela. I am against what happened there. It was an act of war without Congressional approval. It was harmful to civilians. My travel situation is pretty annoying, too, but I am safe.

This week is the 🎡 Reassessment Carnival 🎡 in my classes, where students optionally retake any assessment to update me one last time with a demonstration of what they know. It's an exciting and stressful and satisfying week full of celebration for students' accomplishments and also a TON of grading.

There is a robust conversation already about supporting students digital literacy abilities.

This is good & necessary & (from what I can see) happening.

I would offer that there is an equally compelling case for the need to practice perspective taking.

I wish this was more supported.
