Please everyone buy my latest book which is all about this problem and how we can fix it. It has, of course, been ignored by the mainstream press.

What a lovely message from @bookshop.org. Glad to see them growing and growing. We CAN claim back what has been taken from us by these monstrous corporations, and it starts with things like this. Grab some books these next couple days!

In his final interview, which was about public sociology, Michael Burawoy said that students “are our primary public as academics.”

I appreciate his point cuz critiques about academics being cut off from the public and only in conversation with other academics ignore the crucial work of teaching.

I am begging Canadians to understand that Canada Post, like public transit, should not be a business - it's a service.

Canada Post is a lifeline for rural, remote and Northern communities and overall, we need to re-evaluate why people think they "need" random shit delivered ASAP.

The government is reducing service standards and Canada Post’s biggest advantage: its nationwide network.

This plan is about cutting back the postal service instead of investing to give it new revenue tools through things like postal banking. It’s shameful.

Anti-science creeps northward. 😳 Dr. Boileau's comments suggest ignorance of asymptomatic spread, the exponential harm of each infection (including long COVID risk), and the effectiveness of layered protections (vaccines, masking in public, cleaning the air):

Hey Canada, how do you feel about spending taxpayer dollars to cover the cost of a lawsuit because our government decided to defame righteous critics of genocide? Is that fiscally prudent governance?

If you’re canceling subscription services with giant companies with ties to terrible people, you should think about replacing them with a library card. Many library systems give you access to physical media (some of which you can’t find on streaming!) as well as other great stuff.

When we think of sexism, it's easy to think of *active* efforts to discriminate against women. But sexism also operates *passively* - like through our inaction on issues like childcare and paid family leave. In that context, return-to-office policies are sexist in consequence, even if not in design.
aaronsojourner.org
"The labor participation rate for women with children younger than 5 had the biggest midyear drop in more than 40 years during the first six months of 2025."
Remote policies helped women work. In-office mandates and child care costs are driving them back out.
Low flexibility and high child care costs are pushing mothers with young kids to the sidelines after they joined the workforce in record numbers during the pandemic.

There are so many awful things happening in the world right now and so many of us feel powerless to change anything.

But community care is a skill we can all learn. We CAN show up for each other when we see our fellow neighbours being targeted.

Let me teach you how!

It’s wild, absolutely wild, how for EVERY. SINGLE. CITY. Trump wants to militarize I can post data showing how crime is plummeting in all of them without any federal invasion…

… and the press KEEPS stenographing the naked bad-faith claims about “fighting crime!” in the headlines.

Infuriating.

Giant YTD drops in Chicago for basically all crimes.

Huge 4-reductions in Chicago for all violence. Murders are down FIFTY PERCENT.

Property crimes are dropping, tho still higher than before. But MRAPs don’t stop theft.

This is all pretext. Yet the WaPo subhed frames it as a “crime” issue.

Or maybe you could teach your kids to treat all people as deserving of respect and dignity. And maybe you could talk to your kids about homelessness, the unaffordability of housing and healthcare, the stigma around mental illness, and why it's not okay to call people crazy.

Buried in the regime's political takeover letter of the Smithsonian is the worst bit. Unlike exhibits, which are non-destructive towards primary materials, temporary in nature, and reversible, the foundational collections are irreplacable. They want to be able to throw stuff out.

Less than 24 hours after posting this documentary to Instagram, we got locked out of our account. It’s about the crackdown on pro Palestinian protests on campuses across Montreal. We need your help to get the word out. 🙏 l.instagram.com?u=https%3A%2...
Palestine on Campus: the Student Movement in Montreal Schools
Since the first student encampment in solidarity with Palestine went up at McGill University last year, the student movement has only grown, organizing and diversifying tactics to pressure schools to divest academically and financially from Israel. In Palestine on Campus, The Rover’s Savannah Stewart and Justin Khan look back on the events of the last school year at McGill, Concordia and Dawson College, revealing how pro-Palestinian activism has raised tensions between university administrations and their student bodies and been the target of pushback from a variety of sources. Our investigation highlights an apparent lack of communication between university administrations and the student movement for Palestine, which enjoys broad support among the student body as evidenced by incredibly successful strike votes and divestment votes at both universities. In the absence of a meaningful reconciliation between the goals of the administrations and the demands of the students, we hope this documentary can help initiate the necessary conversations to chart a path forward. — Find in-depth investigative journalism, political commentary, podcast episodes and more at https://therover.ca/ Don’t miss out!
