I simply cannot understand Labour’s stance.

PR has been resoundingly approved by its members at Conference and has been previously endorsed by Nigel Farage.

So they have an argument for doing it and an argument against Farage complaining.

Surely it’s an open goal?

Like their predecessors and their rivals, the lack of a proper plan means just ramping up the rhetoric.

And when there’s a bit of a backlash, making speeches of appeasement that last about a day before the next awful scheme.

Instead of being helpful, by explaining which roles it might refer to, it majors on the ‘we’re getting tough on immigration and making it more difficult for migrants’ message.

If they apply this, then we’ll get no construction workers, care workers, agricultural workers, hospitality workers - all jobs that we desperately need people to do.

It’s something so daft I can’t imagine even the last government doing.

If they applied it to Reform voters they wouldn’t stand a hope in hell of winning a single seat.

It’s just ludicrous. Labour lost me months ago - and with every day that passes I am firmer in my belief that they not a party I can possibly support.

Two things will likely happen:

Protest will go underground and thus be more difficult to trace to source.

Frustrated protesters will get more disruptive - and potentially more destructive - through imposed restrictions.

I can’t see either of the things being intended consequences of a crackdown.

Absolutely.

I have no inherent problem with digital ID - unless and until it is used for underhand purposes. Which appears to be the case here.

Their sales pitch was unbelievably woeful. And they’re now reaping the rewards of that.
