The refusal to consider DC Statehood is largely a reluctance to give DC two Senators, which itself is a tacit admission that the United States Senate is an anti-democratic institution.
Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.

On a related note: buy books. Buy actual books. Buy actual books you can put in a stack so when someone comes to your place you can make them look at the stack and behold your books. The truth is buying one book can make your life better, and you can do it *over and over* and no one can stop you.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Just finished @digkabri.bsky.social ‘s excellent “After 1177BC”. A breakdown of regions of the Eastern Mediterranean and Mesopotamia of the impact of the transition from Bronze Age to Iron Age, followed by a synthesis of how different areas fit the adaptive cycle. 1/3rd is notes and bibliography!
