Just a reminder that I manage a conservation and fisheries (or fisheries conservation) starter pack. One day I'll get around to a counter IUU specific one but today is not that day.

None of these things are new but I’m grateful to the @financialtimes.com for being another voice bringing these abuses to light
NEW: Our investigation finds a tuna supply chain riddled with exploitation and abuse - where fishermen spend months or even years at sea.

Some describe threats, beatings and deception over pay.

Yet the fish they catch is still ending up on our plates.

Some of my words and images in this open article by the Financial Times in London… for the last few years I have been working more on the labour side of fisheries, yet as former migrant fisherman myself I hardly get invited to contribute. I appreciate the opportunity

The world is shit right now. Make it a little less shit - grant a wish for a kid in foster care.
🧵 We are, in fact, doing the thing again for @onesimplewish.bsky.social. In 2024, the kind people of this community put the money cannon on blast to help grant $75K in wishes for children in foster care. Toys, tech, a suit for job interviews. Here we go again! 👇

I don’t know what’s worse, the idea that AI is taking these jobs or the CEOs quoted in the article saying that entry level workers deserve it.

This is why all the people saying “well it’s a big tent” drive me nuts. Ask her if she still thinks that the Jews control the economy and have a space laser. Ask her!
*banging pots together* YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAND IT TO MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE
Marjorie Taylor Greene: "Promoting H-1B visas to replace American jobs, bringing in 600k Chinese students to replace American students' opportunities -- those are not America first positions. I would love to see Air Force One stay home and there be nothing but a focus in the WH on a domestic agenda"

My Catholic League story is that when I wrote opinions for the Stony Brook Statesman I had to call them for a comment on something and I actually got Bill Donohue, who yelled at me when I asked if he was the only person who worked at the Catholic League.
Holy shit. They're really doing it. They're doing "actually pedophilia is good now." The debasement of the American Right is complete.

We are entering a phase when it will be very important to not hand it to Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene: "I never thought that fighting to release the Epstein files, defending women who were victims of rape, and fighting to expose the web of rich powerful elites would have caused this, but here we are."

Cool cool cool those pardons didn’t totally embolden some of the worst people to act against their fellow citizens.
New:

On The Gateway Pundit's podcast yesterday, Stewart Rhodes announced he's relaunching the Oath Keepers

He also urged Trump to “call us up as a militia" & "order us all to come together in our counties under his command."

When I read this originally I thought it was a year long deal - I didn’t realize it was an agreement on a vote. Senate Dems are ridiculous if they think this is a good idea.

Friends in Georgia, please call your Senators (at least they’re occasionally in the office) and Representatives on behalf of Rodney.
Or Rodney Taylor, a disabled double amputee who’s been in America since he was two years old.

He was days away from receiving new prosthetic legs when ICE grabbed him

His health is declining, they won’t let him get his legs and they’ve placed him in solitary

a lot of people are quoting this and saying things like “standing up for trans rights is a winning political strategy” and while I agree with this, win or lose standing up for trans rights is important - no, vital - because it’s the right thing to do.

In an article full of interesting facts is the idea that we don't know how many crew members of fishing vessels are abandoned in random countries BECAUSE NOBODY IS TRACKING IT.

There are stats for other types of crew members, such as crew on shipping vessels.
