You know it's a good game when halfway through there's a quiz, and the questions aren't even related to the game but just general trivia.

Normally puzzles in point & click adventures act as road blocks: you either solve them or you're stuck.

But not so in Don't Escape! You can half botch a puzzle and still carry on with the story! How cool is that??

I think it's really interesting what they've done with Don't Escape here. It doesn't just take the old point & click formula, but brings to the table some new or rarely seen features to make things more interesting.

For example, you can partially solve puzzles in this game, how about that!

Old adventure games are typically very brutal on the player, which is a thing often avoided in more modern ones.

And while it's good when a game doesn't actively hate the player, having deaths and a feeling of real stakes in a game does bring its own excitement.

Don't Escape: 4 Days To Survive by @scriptwelder.com is 80% off on Steam right now.

This is my favourite adventure game of 2019. I love how innovative its mechanics are. This game brings replayability to a whole new level that's rarely seen in point & clicks!

It was crashing every 45 minutes though, which is apparently way worse than it originally was in Windows XP or whatever.

I've read it has something to do with Windows Data Execution Prevention, which was introduced in Windows... 8?

But yeah, it's a wonky mess regardless hahah
martijnfrazer.bsky.social
To be clear, I've never played this before lol

It's much more janky than I had imagined it to be, but in a fun way that makes me enjoy it!

I bought New Vegas on a whim because it was only $5 on Steam.

It crashed a lot at first, but after following one of those 36 step guides to patch the game and install a bunch of mods, it's running pretty well now and I'm having a good time!
Screenshot of New Vegas showing a character wearing a lab coat named Thomas Hildern who says: "Too many people have opinions about things they know nothing about. And the more ignorant they are, the more opinions they have."

Mr Creosote, The Digital Antiquarian and myself join the DOS Game Club podcast to explore Infocom's PLANETFALL.

It’s a rich and entertaining conversation - part deep-dive, part trip down memory lane...

And on top of all that we received a lovely voice message from friend of the show Jon aka BogusMeatFactory, who together with his buddy Nick ran an Infocom-themed podcast called The Literate Pixel, which is highly recommended!

Last but not least we had the pleasure of having @digiantiquarian.bsky.social on, who has been writing about videogames as "The Digital Antiquarian" for many years over at his website filfre.net

Talking to all the amazing guests is always the best part of doing this podcast.

This episode we had veteran DGC member Mr. Creosote on, who has written about Planetfall for his website GoodOldDays.net: www.goodolddays.net/en/game/Plan...

Had a very good time chatting about Infocom's Planetfall (1983) on the DOS Game Club podcast the other day.

Turns out we had a lot to discuss, because this is our longest ever episode at almost 4 hours lol

I use this too! Especially useful to make quiet twitch streams or podcasts more audiable on poor laptop speakers.

tbh I feel like the well has been completely drained. Making everything a subscription service was the last bit of "real" innovation from that vein and now they've truly run out of ideas.

It's honestly shocking how much my tech life now resembles my tech life of 2015.
