Looks like I missed #PortfolioDay a few days ago.

I've worked as a color artist for comics since 1991, primarily for Marvel, DC, Image, Vertigo, and Dark Horse, on Preacher, Daredevil, Batman, etc, etc.

Not looking for work.

Artist credits in Alt text.
Sounds great. I'll be ordering.
I spent over a year of my life writing this collaborative craft book with eleven other (fantastic! talented! good-looking!) writers.

My favorite reads of the last few years have all been from indies like Tenebrous and Shortwave. Heck, if you're into novellas (and you should be) that's where most of the action is.
2 ongoing convos are dovetailing rn:
1. a holiday shopping $ blackout aimed at big business;
2. worry over small presses closing or paring down.

Let's talk direct action: YOU CAN DO BOTH😀

IT'S VITAL TO SUPPORT indie pubs that encourage risk & diversity. Here's a 🧵 of em you can support directly:

Sunday tasks:

Finally hung our carbon monoxide/smoke detectors, 2 of them, networked. And my son, metalhead drummer that he is, keeps breaking cymbals. Today, we drilled a Meinl China & Paiste crash, and then he filed the holes down. All to stop the cracks from spreading.

Weekends rock. I woke at 5am, drank coffee, & wrote for an hour, snow falling outside, family asleep. Walked the dog before sunrise, beside a river, nobody awake. Wrote more. Ate. Family woke. Hung out with them. Napped. Drank cider and beer. Booked vacation in Istanbul. Now, time to watch Pluribus.

Polar vortex delivered the first snow of the year in Samobor, Croatia, but sadly, it's a weak snow. We haven't had proper snow in many years. When my son, now 14, was little, we'd get so much snow we'd carve tunnels for him to drive his car through. Those days are long gone.

Booked our family vacation in spring for Istanbul. First time. We'll walk so much my feet will break, and I'll love it.

‘Denim’ gets its name from the French words ‘de Nĭmes’ meaning "of Nĭmes," because it was manufactured in the city of Nĭmes.

‘Jeans’ comes from the city of Genoa (earlier known as Genes) because the pants were worn by the Genoese navy.

'JNCO' means “Judge None Choose One."

This week coloring a comic for Image, then starting on Batwoman for DC Comics.

Mostly recovered from Covid, testing negative, but have some lingering weirdness: mainly my left ear keeps clogging. During Covid, I had tinnitus on the left, and now my hearing is still weird.

Foundation season one is about as interesting as watching paint dry. Does it improve?

This is how competent I am with physical crap.

Use a level, draw a level line with a pencil, mark off where the holes should go. Measure twice, drill once. Concrete wall, and the drill bit jumps. So, this is how level I hung my temp controller on the brewery wall.

Stick to digital art, eh?

I'm doing a test to see if a specific person really likes every god damned thing I post. Don't like this or share it, please.

Just bottled hard cider in these lovely little Duvel-like bottles, 49 bottles. 9.7% abv. Apple juice adulterated with honey fermented with champagne yeast, both the juice and honey from my friend who has an orchard and bees. Natural Croatian product. Tasty and it will fuck you up right proper.

This morning, I wrapped up a first draft for a commissioned story and sent off to my editor. Attached: my clocked hours, ~33 hrs for this draft, with 6 days off for Covid. Me slow.

Now, I hope the editor doesn't hate the story. Argh!

In Croatia, today is Martinje, a celebration of Saint Martin during which locals drink young wine from this years harvest. Since 2016, I've collaborated with local brewery Pivovara Medvedgrad to brew a barleywine instead, 10.3%, aged six month, 3000 liters. Cheers!

Covid weirdness:

Day 6, yesterday: I had tinnitus in my left ear for the second half of the day. Otherwise, good. Worked all day, broken up by a 90 minute nap.

Day 7, this morning, I woke to burst blood vessels in my right eye. Wasn't like that last night, so happened while asleep. Odd. I feel ok.
