Looks like I missed #PortfolioDay a few days ago.

I've worked as a color artist for comics since 1991, primarily for Marvel, DC, Image, Vertigo, and Dark Horse, on Preacher, Daredevil, Batman, etc, etc.

Not looking for work.

A page from the Image comics Precious Metal, drawn by Ian Bertram and colored by me. A glowing, multi-faced, multi-armed god glows brightly at the center of a cloud of entrails, as a man looks on. Yeah. I'm back working with Vertigo after all these years and loving it, loving my collaborators.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Yup. Great one. Tiny story. You have the few minutes it takes to read. Go. Read it.

I listen to a ton of music while writing or painting. Good for the soul.

By no media, I meant no news. I still watch shows during my cleanse.

Maybe try the cleanse I do every January? No media, no social media, no news, no caffeine, no intoxicants—for a month. Read stories/books on paper before sleepy time.

Music for a Saturday night. They're not Russian, not supporting evil invasions that I know, so don't freak out on me. Droning post metal. U like Mogwai? Check it. These guys are in my writing playlist. Instrumental wall of lovely noise. @russiancircles.bsky.social

Bummer. I was there in 2017. Not sure if he was there then, but it was nice. Some local guy got me way too high, then took me there. And when I hoofed it back to the hotel, I wandered into a crowd of naked bicyclists, hundreds of them, while still quite high. World Naked Bike something or other.

And as far as I remember, they pulled a proper pint. Mostly Fullers, if I'm not mistaken, but in good shape.

There's a pub in Brighton called The Basketmakers Arms that has tins on the walls, like breath mint tins, etc. And people leave messages in those. You can open them and pull out little scraps of paper with poems, notes in various languages, etc. And you can leave your own. Great fish and chips, too.

Just back from an apple harvest to make hard cider. After 19 years in Croatia, I've finally fallen in with a group of other foreigners, and they're lovely people. I had fun. Brought a 14-year-old mead I made, which was a hit. Good fun. Now, I have to prep for brewing beer tomorrow.

Many of these people are amazing—

But mag Editors are just guys who decided to spend a lot of time on something they love.

Just people.

I do see some people who love the show, though. And I sort of mentally file that away, that I won't trust their recommendations for shows in the future.

Worst offense, though: It's mostly boring. I don't care about any of the characters and just want them all to die horrible deaths. I don't care about the aliens either. I haven't watched the latest episode, though. The show is a massive disappointment on nearly every level.

Willy Wonka was hard to tolerate. Almost everyone are imbeciles beyond belief for their jobs. The Alien's a no-show. The eyeball alien is cool, as is communicating with the alien. The aliens look like shit, though. Too clean, not wet enough, too rubbery. Wrong shader used for the CG, imho.

Just kegged this beer after 1 week of lagering to drop the yeast. Came out fantastic. Highly drinkable. Would be great in hot weather.

This is my 357th batch of beer I've brewed since my 1st batch in Portland in 1997.

Now I'll harvest the yeast to use for next week's Belgian Blond Ale.

I often go right in front of the sound booth, figure the sound tech is doing the mix from their perspective, and get good sound there, like with Mogwai a couple weeks ago.

Here's a snippet from Gojira my son recorded on his Samsung, so smartphone quality sound, which is to say, not great.
matthollingsworth.com
The best of shows I've taken my son to was Gojira, which was over your limit, over 2000, I think, and we weren't near, but had good line of sight and good sound. I'm more into getting good sound. The sound last night was not good, and even cut out for split seconds throughout the gig.

Yeah. I'm not into metal, but I go with my son, and everyone's super friendly.

Ha! Not me. Most of the bands I've seen have been way too big for that.
