This is an interesting and creditably honest and nuanced thread on the controversial topic of remote work and RTO (return to office). I find myself agreeing with a lot of it, but equally unsurprised by some of the heated responses it has generated. Many people who want to work remotely… (1/12)
I have not paid a ton of attention to the uproar over RTO policies, bc we are all in on distributed teams and not going back.

My impression (via social media) has been that these were shadow layoffs.

Last month I asked an investor why they are doing RTO. He said: "Retention, mostly. And morale."

A herring is a fish.

When a herring is preserved by salting and smoking, it turns red and smells.

It's so pungent that it's a great diversion to distract hunting dogs from their trail.

Now, a ‘red herring’ refers to anything that diverts attention from the issue at hand.
