I write stories (mostly romantic, mostly queer and usually fantasy). I also drink tea, foster dogs, and apparently post about politics.

I write stories, which are mostly romantic and mostly queer and usually fantasy. You can read them in the @duckprintspress.bsky.social anthologies "And Seek (Not) to Alter Me," "He Bears the Cape of Stars," "Aether Beyond the Binary," and the upcoming "A Truth Universally Acknowledged!"

Daily thought about writing novels

I’m glad I figured out that I actually make the book great when I revise it. My 1st draft is ideally a joyful race to the end, and to do that, I have to trust myself. But great ideas happen after that too! And they can’t happen until after the 1st draft is done.

...iiiiiiinteresting
Three evenings ago I read an article about using ice packs on the forehead to help beat insomnia. The original study was from 2011 IIRC. Apparently if you drop the temperature of your frontal lobe by a degree or so you trigger a cascade of sleepy time metabolic events.

Clean power growth is now covering all new global demand. Solar and wind generated 635 TWh in the first nine months of this year, exceeding the 603 TWh rise in global electricity demand, and holding fossil generation flat for the year. buff.ly/zRmwAmg

Solar and wind power grew fast enough to keep up with rising electricity demand in the first three quarters of 2025, as fossil fuel growth should be stagnated. Ember forecasts no growth for fossil…

If writing is so easy why do people argue that they can’t do it without the pablumatic verbiage extruder

And if it’s so difficult then why do people think it’s not labour and writers are not workers

i think tech and ai positive people are going to be in for a big shock when anti tech and anti ai sentiment becomes a major part of leftwing politics going forward especially as datacenters continue to destroy communities and raise electricity bills
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

I do this all the damn time, especially when I am tired; edits on the last short story i turned in were 25% combining scenes and 75% fixing all the damn tense screw ups
writing a first draft paragraph like:
hm this sentence will be present tense, and maybe two sentences later i will randomly switch to past tense bc that sounds right in my brain, and then back to present for no reason at all!

Yes. This. Please.

You don't need to use the industry's marketing terms when informing your readers, because those terms are actively misinforming them.
Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪
