"Based on earthquake information and historic tsunami records, the earthquake is not expected to generate a tsunami." 🤔

However, Japan has issued a Tsunami Warning. The statement from the National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC) could use rewording IMHO.

Today, a network of more than 200 seismic stations spans Alaska, and the National Weather Service has tsunami warning centers in Alaska and Hawaii. The NOAA officially terminated funding for nine of those stations, mostly in the seismically active Aleutian Islands, in September.

As of this morning, our data analysts have worked through ~180 aftershocks above magnitude 3 from yesterday's large earthquake near the Hubbard Glacier. While we have not detected landslides, note that this event was on the same fault system that led to the 1958 Lituya Bay tsunami.

So many notifications from the National Tsunami Warning Center.

Every notable aftershock requires another evaluation & "No threat" message.

Ping. Ping. Ping...

(I really appreciate the teams at NTWC & PTWC for their tireless critical work.)

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

The epicenter was a mile or two into Canada and centered underneath a glacier. I bet it triggered a bunch of avalanches.

The other night I was idly watching the sixth episode in a new-to-me TV series on Netflix and about 10 minutes before the end of the episode the playback froze. After trying to restart it for a bit I exited and re-opened Netflix and the entire series had disappeared, apparently deleted from the app.
