The best source of news is generally always the local reporters.

www.kyuk.org is the place for Halong coverage at the source.

And you must watch this segment from KYUK on the @pbsnews.org Newshour.
The ending is quite something.

A replacement generator is currently being sent on a barge, but it’s not scheduled to arrive until Nov. 3 – weather dependent.

Fine, fine writing by Nat Herz!
'We’re in God’s hands now': A dispatch from Western Alaska

“We don’t know where we’re going, or where we’re going to live. Or if we’ll ever go back home,” said John ... He added: “We’re all in God’s hands. We’re not in control any more.”

what i wish more people understood is that the native village of kipnuk and the native village of kwigillingok are federally recognized tribes in the u.s.

we just watched 2 tribes have to evacuate their home and no one knows if they’ll ever get to go back

this is unprecedented in the 21st century

It's hard to find the truth about what has and is happening in storm-lashed northwest Alaska. Here's a good look:
This is good reporting on the disaster in Alaska if you're looking for a reliable summary.

This is a bigger disaster than I think most are realizing. 1500 people have been displaced by the flooding with an exceptionally complicated response and recovery.
