I grew up on the other side of the Twin Cities from where most of the Minnesota Somalis live, so I didn't interact with many growing up. However, when I was going to the UMN, I had a Somali professor, Abdi Samatar, who is genuinely a very smart man, perhaps one of the smartest people I've met.

For me personally, the really sad part is that people don't know about the technological advancements that are improving quality of life because Silicon Valley has become a tech journalism black hole, sucking everyone's attention away from stories of genuine progress.
I think one of the saddest things about being a millennial is remembering a time when technology was advancing in a way that made life better and easier and more exciting instead of actively, intentionally worse
