Every journalist should have the following response prepared for every time they speak with Premier Danielle Smith:

“With respect, Premier, that did not answer my question. What you provided was a justification aligned with your predetermined position, not a direct response."

@charlesrusnell.bsky.social spoke to my class yesterday—great session!
I asked him @ Al Beeber running campaign ads while still writing for the #Lethbridge Herald.👇
“You can’t be a politician AND a journalist,” and he said a leave of absence should have been mandatory.

This interview with Kelti Baird is, by far, the most professional, comprehensive, responsive & engaging of all the candidates to date. She has got it together! I encourage all in #Lethbridge to give it a view.

Premier Danielle Smith is complaining about the Edmonton School Board's "vicious compliance."
I've compiled a few moments of the UCP's vicious compliance with the Premier's simple demands for change to 'Make Alberta Great Again'.
Enjoy!

Writing my thesis and again strongly feeling the lack of a history of the Sunday School organization. Would really love to cite a single book but nooooo I have to cite eight different news articles and five different interviews I've done. #mormonstudies

I just read his EBC submission, which has a number of factual errors, including that Leth-west and Leth-East were "... re-aligned ... to ensure the U of L played a pivotal role in supporting the NDP."

Realigned in 2010.
Under the PCs.
By an EBC that understood Democracy.
As a good EBC will.

this iconic advertising copywriter named Kathy Hepinstall Parks died over the weekend and I wanted to share something from her website I thought Bluesky would like
Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me?
Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

It addresses some long standing issues, questions, and holes in the old policies.
Some courses and profs use AI. So it allows those who don't to ban it and not impact those who do use it.
Shockingly, we have to take some responsibility for our expectations and be clear. That'll be a struggle.
misterhistory.bsky.social
Academic staff were not taken by the hand & told specifically where & how to communicate AI expectations, so somehow it's a mystery. ULFA made "suggestions" but the tone was that it's onerous, extra work. It's not.

New Student Code of Conduct Policy | University of Lethbridge

Saying the new student code of conduct policy is unclear about where and how to set expectations around AI use in courses is disingenuous and obtuse. It will take three or four sentences in a course outline to lay out your expectations. It's not that goddamn complicated.

The fix is in for gerrymandering the Lethbridge West constituency out of existence.

They can’t win it fair and square so now they’ll cheat.

It’s highly unusual for a member of cabinet to intervene in an electoral boundaries process.

The Death of News Was Televised

When the legacy media sold sensationalism – we bought it.
As we grew dependent on scandal, the owners kept selling.
As news slipped to the margins, we let it happen.
Do not blame the legacy media for our sins …
Nor pretend we played no part in its collapse.

Normalise summer holiday boredom for kids.

They need to learn firstly, that from boredom comes creativity, and secondly, that their entertainment/engagement is not entirely someone else’s responsibility.
