My should-be-entirely-non-controversial position is that any personal assets over, say, $500 million should be taxed at about 90%, and if you're genuinely opposed to that, why? What human being needs that much money? Or more than that?

Capitalism is a sickness.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

My Spotify wrapped summary is that my band took all our music off Spotify because the company’s CEO invests the billions which he doesn’t pay artists on AI drone weapons tech.

Ditch Spotify. Pay artists. Redistribute wealth. Stop war. Happy Christmas!

Please don't let the fear of not doing something well stop you from trying it for the first time. Write a messy story. Paint a crappy flower. Whittle the worst wooden bear of all time.

Just imagining how much better it would be if ALL news stories about vaccine-preventable illnesses were illustrated with pictures of people with the disease, not pictures of needle injections. If you must show something that people will find scary & unpleasant, make it the disease, not the cure.
I'm so tired of measles.

I'm also tired of people using needle shots on stories like this.

Show what measles looks like.

A purported ally threatening diplomats and their families with personal consequences if they maintain the positions they’ve been instructed to take is very deeply shocking, extremely hostile, and undermines the norms by which non-violent resolution of international disagreements are possible.

It's appropriate that this sentiment comes after the industry realized that they haven't done anything useful in 20 years so they descended into mass psychosis over tech that does nothing but purports to do everything

As an owner of a petrified dog. I’d love to see legislation come in banning loud fireworks. Everyone seems to be letting off public fire display fireworks in their back gardens pretty much all year round. It’s bollocks. Bring back Sparklers, Roman candles and Catherine wheels.

Absolutely no surprise that Thames Water has been ranked the worst water company in England by the Environment Agency. We say, put the company into special administration and scrap the ill-advised sewage recycling proposals at Teddington. We give them zero stars for trust.

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks.”
