A UAE investor secretly gave Trump $187 million and his top Middle East envoy $31 million. And then Trump gave that investor access to sensitive defense technology that broke decades of national security precedent.

Brazen, open corruption. And we shouldn't pretend it's normal.

Refreshing Bluesky repeatedly for confirmation/details of a Brendan Donovan trade. I need more sources for breaking news.

I’m a little nervous to hear the Rays are involved. They seem to do pretty dang well in trades.

The BFIB have become the Biggest Frontrunners in Baseball.
I know @dgoold.bsky.social has visited this topic numerous times in chats and on podcasts: fan atmosphere inside Busch III.

This passage crystallizes the issue.

Last night on the Abbott Elementary episode we watched, the principal Ava was lying in a park on her portable blow-up lounge chair listening to an oral history on the history of oral histories and she is now my North Star.

On the day of our first major snowstorm of the winter, it was great to get a special multi-game ticket offer from our local Triple-A team.

Seeing this photo reminds me that this man scored from first base after a wild pickoff attempt—it was the winning run in the top of the 25TH INNING against the Mets in September 1974.

It was the first run scored in the game since the top of the 9th.

If he’d ever expand his fandom beyond the White Sox, surely it would be to support the Padres and the Cardinals.
Please stop tormenting this poor man with jerseys from teams that are not his. bsky.app/profile/jmte...

I’ve always been very curious who the Astros offered for him last offseason. Deal was in place and then Arenado vetoed it (his right), even though Houston was on his (short) list of teams he’d accept a trade to.

It’s been a strange year in St Louis and that non-trade was part of it.
I'm not sure I have another winter of Nolan Arenado Trade Discourse in me, tbh

99 wRC+ last three seasons, he'll be 35

best fits are probably, like, Pirates or A's or Angels or Nats. but if he's not going to a team that isn't a better bet than STL, it's .. Tigers? *maybe?*

This may be slightly hyperbolic, but given the astounding collapse maybe only slightly: the fraying hopes of the Tigers’ season largely rest tonight on the right arm of…Jack Flaherty.

Has a team ever won a division with a negative run differential? Guardians are still –5.

More than decent chance they’ll end up positive, especially if they win enough games to take the division.
The Guardians were as many as 15.5 games behind in the division in early July

Largest deficits overcome to win division (1969-on) or league (pre-‘69):

1914 Braves: 15.0 GB
1978 Yankees: 14.0
2012 A’s: 13.0
1995 Mariners: 13.0
1951 Giants: 13.0

I finally got off my ass and subscribed. It will be a good buy. I love baseball and have followed Brentford for a while (since the BMW line days), although my true-blue English team is Portsmouth.

Baseball is the real draw.

Now I need to go back and find the newsletter with Muswell Hillbillies.

Or to put it another way, the Rockies have played 5% of their games this season against the Cardinals and used them to gain 12.5% of their wins.

Whatever. This series feels like a lost opportunity for the Cards but that’s baseball. The Dodgers are probably wondering how they dropped 4 of 6 to StL.
12.5% of the Rockies’ wins this year have come against the Cardinals. Achieved in only six games.

In Des Moines Fox just left the Cards-Cubs game in the second inning in favor of a Chiefs preseason game.

What the heck??!!

Given how the game has gone so far, maybe they’re taking mercy on us.

Intellectually (where do I get off using that word?)—intellectually I want the Cards to sell, as long as they can get back some value, which would likely require them to continue stumbling along, but whenever I watch a game it’s impossible not to root for them. The heart wants what the heart wants.

By my count Cards had four ABs with a runner on third and zero or 1 out(s). I haven’t even looked at how many overall ABs with RISP.

Cheers to Pallante. Nice, nice game.

“quietly” LOL

What a profile in courage. Standard stuff from Murkowski.
Lisa Murkowski talks to the press shortly after she voted, quietly, “aye” on Trump’s tax bill. She said she hopes the House and Senate go to conference to improve it and called her vote “agonizing.”

Coincidence? I don’t believe in coincidence.
The Cardinals badly need to give Pozo more playing time. Pagés is indeed a good defender (outside of blocking pitches) but not to the extent that you can play his weak bat so often. This should be close to a 50-50 job share with Herrera out.
