Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus): This large species of falcon is found in nearly all regions of our planet with the exception of extreme polar areas. Recorded travelling at 320km/h (200mph) in a dive, this is the fastest creature in the world. Stunning image taken by Paul Ash in Cornwall, UK.

Merlin (you can choose which part of the world you’re in) and ObsIdentify. The last one is a Dutch app, but it’s also available in English.

You can almost see the vocal cords, if it had any. They have a unique vocal organ called a syrinx, which is located at the lower end of the trachea where it splits into the lungs. 🪶 #dunnock #heggenmus

The jackdaws at the castle. They build their nests in every nook and cranny and the castle has many. 🪶

After Zorro, the black swan, was killed by a dog, I visited his realm one last time, just saying goodbye. And I said “Zorro, could you do me one last favour?”. And I walked a few steps, looked to my right and there she was, my very first #kingfisher. 🪶

When photos go totally pear-shaped, I might as well play with them. I don’t have or do photoshop. I just use what my phone can do with it. So here’s a psychedelic #robin. 🪶 #EuropeanRobin #roodborstje

This Tawny Owl used to live near the castle and after sunset you could hear him hoot, which only adds to a spooky atmosphere. 🪶 #TawnyOwl #bosuil

Doorwerth Castle, situated slightly elevated on the banks of the Lower Rhine river. I live in the village so I visit it often. When it’s misty, there’s a nice spooky feeling, but I never knew any of the ghost stories that are connected to it. See alt text. #Palaces&Gardens #Myths&Legends
Doorwerth Castle is reportedly haunted by several spirits, including a girl who starved to death, a thieving servant, a murderous castellan, and a witch-like woman in a carriage with headless horses.
The British paranormal TV show Most Haunted investigated these claims in 2004, noting the alleged sightings and phenomena.

Reported Ghosts
The Starved Girl: A recurring phenomenon in the hunting hall of the north wing is attributed to a girl who supposedly starved to death within the castle walls.

Black Jack: A mischievous spirit that plays pranks on guests, such as moving belongings and sliding glasses off tables.

The Lady in the Carriage: A witch-like woman is said to ride in a carriage pulled by headless horses.

Other Spirits: Some accounts mention the ghosts of a thieving servant, a murderous castellan, a lady beekeeper, and a woman searching for her baby.

Most Haunted Investigation
In 2004, the team from the British paranormal television show Most Haunted investigated the alleged hauntings at Doorwerth Castle.
During their investigation, a guide reportedly went into a trance and broke down in tears, an event the team attributed to the emotionally charged nature of the tragic history of the castle.
doorwerthinfo.nl also mentions that scientific observations and proof of these phenomena were gathered in 2004.

History of the Castle
Doorwerth Castle was built around 1280 and was significantly damaged during World War II but later restored.

Dotted or spotted, that’s the question. @alan678.bsky.social put us on the spot with his theme #spotted for #BirdOfTheDay. I hope this juvenile hawfinch, spotted on our balcony and being fed by dad will pass the test. 🪶

Good afternoon Alan. Who’s spotting who? But that’s a lovely robin in the spotlight, no doubt!

I used two apps. They went for 99% and 100% willow warbler.
