Generally speaking, one problem with public opinion and debates in democracies is that people might have very strong opinions about the ideal value of some policy parameter (e.g., defense spending, number of immigrants, crime rates, whatever) and ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE about the current real value.
Wow.
This says *everything* about the German defence debate, really.

For YEARS experts have fretted over public opinion on defence spending and how it would be impossible to justify spending over 1 or 2%. Turns out 35% (!!!!) of Germans think we’re already spending OVER 5 % of GDP. WTH.

That's an under-appreciated impact of #AMOC shutdown, of particular concern given the recent results showing much higher likelihood of this. 1/2

Good article on the US plans to build 300 000 low cost drones.
As I have said about similar German plans, I think it’s more important to build up production capabilities instead of putting a lot of systems in storage. (With the US budget, you can of course do both 🤷‍♀️)

Philosophically speaking, the problem with Musk’s comment is that the EU was not imposed on its member states; as sovereign states, they voluntarily entered into it and agree to abide by its governance. The EU structure also allows states to voluntarily leave the union.
Elon Musk is against the European Union being the European Union —he posted this after X (fka Twitter) was fined for violations of the EU’s Digital Services Act.

This is a bit early still, but if true, it’s yet another an example of Past Patricia’s post.

if i was still a race reporter, i'd maybe write about how the image looks almost exactly like the image on the first edition on the cover of the deeply racist novel "the camp of the saints" which is in vogue with the racists running this country (and beyond).
