When Rob Reiner was on his all-time epic run at the start of his career, he had an opportunity to read a script that was looking for a production partner, and he lost his mind for it. He decided Castle Rock had to have it, no matter what.

This is a good reminder for those of us making best of lists that if yours looks like everyone else's, it's a sign that you need to read more widely. There is so much great work that often goes unnoticed because it doesn't get a splashy marketing campaign.
My condolences to writers and artists who have done great work but have cracked few (or no) year-end lists.

A first-world problem, to be sure, but I know how much that stings. Rest assured, you all did great and deserved better.

Today’s #LibFaves25 pick is Addie E. Citchens’ remarkable debut DOMINION. An unforgettable read about toxic masculinity and all the things that entwine with it, and a fantastic audiobook as well!

It’s the first night of Hanukkah and the world seems like a very dark place. But we can bring light to the darkness. We can fight for each other and make goodness, love, and community shine through.

Show me your menorahs and let’s light up the timeline!

My next #LibFaves25 pick is Jonathan Janz's terrifically entertaining and suspenseful VEIL, which hooked me immediately and kept me rapt. People are being grabbed and pulled along by some unseen force until they vanish. What's going on, and is there any hope of saving humanity? 📚 💙

Jesse Hamm had the take to end all takes on children's media. "People who disdain writing ‘just for children’ fail to realize that those children will remember what they read, maybe for the rest of their lives. You’re not writing for permanent children; you’re getting an early start on adults.”

My Day 6 #LibFaves25 pick is THE ART OF A LIE by Laura Shepherd-Robinson, exactly the kind of twisty historical fiction I can't resist! A widow in 18th century London hopes to save her struggling confectionary shop with ice cream...but she'll have to proceed very carefully if she wants to succeed.

Time for me to pass the baton to our next #LibFaves25 volunteer. At last check we had 212 unique titles, and the tied top titles are still: The Correspondent, Death of the Author, and Wild Dark Shore. BUT a few new titles might be gaining momentum. Our count down continues through 12/17.

I honestly think that many people don't know what their public libraries offer besides books. I think that everyone should go on a public library treasure hunt in 2026. Go explore what your library systems offer at no cost to you. Report back to me :)

Look I’m just gonna say it: it’s difficult for me to believe that this level of disrespect is not tied to this series being about gay people. I’m the first one to talk about how much privilege white ppl have in this space, but I can’t imagine this level of casual for a het book becoming a smash hit

Today's #LibFaves25 pick is Catherine Chidgey's THE BOOK OF GUILT. This sinister story of three boys living in a very unusual children's home in an alternate history England had me 100% hooked from its first pages. If you like unsettling dystopian vibes, this is the book for you! 💙📚

It's fitting that the cover on AI mindlessly apes an earlier creation and also displaces workers while elevating Silicon Valley plutocrats.

My Day 4 #LibFaves25 pick is Jonathan Evison's gorgeous novel THE HEART OF WINTER. Loved this beautifully detailed portrait of a decades-long marriage and the vivid Bainbridge Island setting. 💙📚

Day 2 of #LibFaves25 and I'm going with ANGEL DOWN by Daniel Kraus, which viscerally and unforgettably combines the real-life horrors of WWI trench warfare with otherworldly influences. Totally grabbed me from the very first page. 💙📚
