Why did I get on Threads and learn that Corn Flakes was originally made to curb masturbation, and that seasonings on your food increases sexual hunger? Is not seasoning your chicken supposed to temper your sexual libido or something?

Kellogg's solution to [masturbation] was a healthy diet. He thought that meat and certain flavorful or seasoned foods increased sexual desire, and that plainer food, especially cereals and nits, could curb it—an idea proposed in the mid-19th century by Sylvester Graham, a Presbyterian minister and eponymous of the Graham Cracker. While Kellogg worked as the superintendent at Michigan's battle Creek sanitarium, he hit upon a few different healthy eating ideas. Two became breakfast staples, and one (thankfully) didn't.

Today my daughter's preschool is holding a farewell assembly for one of her classmates whose mother has no choice but to self deport. The school is hoping it will be joyful in tone, so we might make this less upsetting for this 3 year old.

There's just no words for the uselessness of this cruelty.

There’s a young Black boy in my neighborhood that most people would describe as a YN but he was always friendly & respectful to me. I would give him snacks after school & ask about his day. when he was in 7th grade, one day I randomly asked him “what’s making your heart so sad?”

This is one of the things I miss about going to church. I grew up a Baptist Christian. Black church always felt like they not only were there to inspire you from time to time, but there is a sense of urgency, a warning in his voice about the evils around you. I didn't get it as a kid.
