Even putting destalinisation and decolonisation in one sentence will cause rage in some corners of decolonial academia. Godspeed and fair play to the organisers 🚀
A webinar on destalinization as decolonization: what does it mean to recognise the Soviet ‘Union’ and post-Soviet Russia as a colonial project and why is it essential to confront and overcome an ongoing imperial and not only an authoritarian legacy

Did you advise him on the reset policy and declaring there was "no military solution" in 2014?
When I worked for Obama, I advised him on how to talk to Russian leaders. I never gave the Kremlin advice on how to talk to Obama (and I talked to Ushakov many times!).

'Humanitarian activities' include militarisation and russification of Ukrainian kids. Humanity, impartiality, neutrality and indepence of international humanitarianism as it is 🤡

Insane betrayal
The alleged European counterproposal says the Ukrainian army will be “capped at 800,000 in peacetime.”

If true, it’s an astonishing reversal from yesterday’s statement signed by leaders at the G20 that warned limitations “would leave Ukraine vulnerable to a future attack.”

The US is stabbing Ukraine in the back right when even sceptical news sources such as Militarnyi report that Ru military budget is in terrible form. I'm not one for daily cheery reports that Russia collapses tomorrow, but it's clear that Trump is rescuing Russia from the unfolding economic disaster.
‼️ In Yakutia (Russia), payments to the military have been suspended due to a budget deficit and the “impossibility of predicting” how much money needs to be allocated for these payments, - Militarnyi

Meanwhile, Russia seems to successfully decouple the US from Europe. Who out-Raegans whom in this race is the question. (Only half-joking)
There are reports and suggestions the US is desperate to stop Russia becoming a Chinese satellite and they are happy to throw Ukraine under the bus to do it

Ugh, for all Lambert's pro-Russian sympathies, he doesn't have Kneecap flying Russian flags at the gigs to shtick it up to the Brits. Even if the only reason to hold back were a thought that it would be bad for business. It could have been worse!

Ukraine gets vague promises of security from the US in exchange for giving Russia everything they want (no NATO and no nukes). Everyone is afraid to help defend UA against renewed RU aggression.
With the reluctant allies we have, nukes increasingly seem to be the only feasible option of survival.
The Witkoff-Dmitriev plan is even more amateurish than I imagined. It favours Russia although does contain elements that Russia will not like. Premature leaking means that it is no more than work in progress. Here is an annotated version (This is free). open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/t...?

We now know a bit more about the process which led to the new peace plan and we now have a copy of its contents, to which I will turn soon.

Trump passing to Ukraine the same Russian ultimatum to surrender that they had been demanding since 2022. Same old shite over and over again. Ukraine did not submit at its weakest in spring 2022, why should she submit now when Russia's finally hit with sanctions like never before?

I'm sincerely sorry that the fact that Ukrainians keep surviving Russia's genocidal onslaught presents a deadly cognitive dissonance to Europe's and America's far-left (far-right just hate foreigners, there's no dissonance). So much mental gymnatics must be bad for their health.

It's a nice message to send to the EU. It's funny they are not asking the Russians to leave Ukraine though. It's just eyewash aimed at the gullible Westerners donors. At home Russian liberals have been pleading for less corruption and better conditions for their soldiers while they kill Ukrainians.
“If I had to describe the movement that my husband Alexei Navalny created in just a few words, I’d say this: We are a pro-European movement,” Yulia Navalnaya, Russian opposition leader and economist writes in an op-ed.

“We believe Russia is an inseparable part of European civilization.”
What the Russian opposition wants
We aren’t asking for anything extravagant: We simply want Russia to be a normal country that cares about the dignity, rights and future of its people — just as European countries do.

Whereas in reality an average Ukrainian voter is a baseline social demorat, because everyone takes for granted labour rights, free education and (even though impoverished) free public healthcare. Some are more religiously conservative, some are more libertarian.
It's a classic trope that anti-communist Eastern Europeans are reactionaries, fascists, Nazi collaborators and who knows what else.
