This captures the reason I went on strike in 2023. The lack of solidarity from bioscientists for the wider university community was shocking. I imagine it's because we remain *relatively* well funded.
struggling to budget both myself & a decent post-doc under the ukri grant caps (given the massive overheads unis charge) & wondering how others are managing. Then I see all the 0.4 fte for 15 months precarious post-docs being advertised & realise that’s the only way to do it. I hate it, thanks.

Another inspiring story to remind me that the painstaking, frustrating and often slow work of science is worthwhile.
Huntington’s is one of the cruellest and most complicated diseases. But look what human ingenuity and hard work in the service of love can do! Truly inspiring and a rebuke to all those everywhere who are currently taking aim at science and medicine. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Huntington's disease successfully treated for first time
One of the most devastating diseases finally has a treatment that can slow its progression and transform lives, tearful doctors tell BBC.

Absolutely inspiring to read this story of an adult with cystic fibrosis, and her life since starting to take the new drugs. This is what science is for (in my very biased opinion).

I spent my childhood in and out of hospital. At 19, I finally realised I had a terminal disease
Born with cystic fibrosis, Yvonne Hughes was lucky to survive her teens. She definitely didn’t expect to make it into her 50s. The comedian talks about the years she spent struggling to breathe – and ...
