Thrilled to share that our manuscript mapping proteomic & phosphoproteomic signatures of NGT, T2D, males & females — before and after hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp — is now accepted in Cell.

After 21 years at my dream job, I’m very sad to announce my early retirement from the National Institutes of Health. My life’s work has been to scientifically study how our food environment affects what we eat, and how what we eat affects our physiology.

Our paper is out in Nature today! We use Deep Visual Proteomics (DVP) to dissect α1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) in human liver at single-cell resolution.
Let us take a tour through proteotoxic stress in intact human tissue — one hepatocyte at a time.

I am a professor at Columbia University. All of the student NIH training grants have been canceled and now there are reports that ALL funding will be frozen. Why are Universities not banding together and speaking out publicly and forcibly about governmental attacks on biomedical research?

This, about a dedicated young researcher who found joy in her science, gutted me.

“She does not even complain much about life in detention. If she had access to a laptop, and could analyze data from her laboratory at Harvard, “it would be good enough,” she said.”

With everything happening in the US right now, how safe are scientific conferences for foreign participants in the US? I think this is something we have to discuss as a scientific community. I am hesitating to register for US meetings due to the unpredictable situation. Others who feel the same?

Beautiful, powerful letter

I have been asked by Harvard colleagues if they should keep quiet so as not put the larger Harvard community at risk with their words

Took me a while to ruminate

My response:

Harvard is its people and their voices

If we are silent then there is no Harvard to save

The self censorship and appeasement by *National Academies of science* is really disturbing.
How do you stand for science and freedom of academic research when you self censor terms such as “health equity”?
It really takes you back to dark, dark days…
National Academies is altering pending reports to appease Trump administration, some members say
Words such as “health equity” are being replacing with vaguer terms, and 100 members sent a letter of protest to NASEM leaders.
