Updated through last night.

Getting close to the point where Vegas pre-season wins totals becomes less than half the projection for most of these teams (13 games).

Before I was an NBA writer, I was a pro poker player for 12 years. I played against many pro athletes, including Ty Lue a few times.

Here's a snapshot of that period of my life, and thoughts on Lue's alleged connection to Chauncey Billups' private game:

Tyronn Lue's reputation inside the Las Vegas poker circles was a good one among us professional players.

Bulls projected at .500 in the best top of draft year in a generation.

Updated projections. Added one more slight tweak (added HCA to the opponent-adjusted MOV calculation, didn't move things a ton). #NBASky

I am on a 3 person team with other 2 people being women and it is really easy to just be Regular
the women in the workplace discourse is very funny because a man who can act normal in an office environment that's predominantly female is absolutely on easy street. it's maybe the best gig anyone in history has had. and yet for many guys it is utterly impossible

From Vegas expectations:

Bulls, Lakers, Pistons, Spurs, Blazers, Heat ⬆️

Magic, Cavs, Wolves, Clips, Grizz, Mavs, Pacers ⬇️

The Bulls have moved up almost 8 wins from their preseason Vegas odds-adjusted win projection through 7 games, which is pretty wild.

66% of the projection is still from Vegas's expectations.

among the really annoying things about this is that a *lot of the city* has this level of density; you can come way in from edison park (or mount greenwood, or wherever) and find tightly packed SFHs

hey guys, check this out. surely the guy on the right was traded for 3 first round picks and the guy on the left was salary dumped, right? #NBASky

Made a slight methodological tweak (including current win %, in addition to current SRS). New results!

Borrowed an old method from Tom Bassine (updated to account for team & opponent 3 point shooting variance in early season samples), I built some projections based on preseason Vegas adjusted win totals, 3 point & ft point differentials from league avg (per game), and current SRS. #NBASky

me when I see someone trying to do pro Patrick Williams posts after 4 games where he has averaged 9 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 stock per game:

Josh Giddey is currently shooting 43% from three and has a 48% free throw rate (compared to just 17% career prior to this year) and still is somehow well below league average scoring efficiency.

Incredibly weird player.

It's crazy how vast the gap is between what a great concept for a slasher movie "serial killer kills teens at a summer camp" is versus what Friday the 13th actually does with that concept. What a fucking stinker.

The Bulls are 3-0. But are they good?

No.

Here's why.

They have been unreal good at "Jedi 3 point defense".

Teams are shooting just 26% against them from 3. The next best opponent 3 point shooting percentage (SAC, MIA) is 31%. That's huge. And it's mostly luck.
