This is extremely harsh but 100% what we all need. Yet even with this, we of proper internet-using age need SEVERE restrictions—like using desktop computers only, no phones, no laptops, and no internet after dinnertime.

after careful study, I believe only people born between 1975 and 1995 should be allowed to use the internet

accounts with tens of thousands of followers do not get to "vent" or make shit up to panic their followers. there is no "but" after this sentence.

I do not have tens of thousands of followers but explicitly refuse to sow panic; these people can do likewise

For those who don't know, soybean sales also significantly supplement those expensive-to-grow green leafy & vine-grown vegetables everyone loves, so I hope everybody is ready for every good veggie to permanently increase in price.

Very, very good chance that Trump has just permanently destroyed the second most important cash crop in the country, and nobody is going to like the downstream effects of what happens after almost a full fifth of the agriculture industry loses the only bulk buyer in the world that actually matters.

This is like, involuntary commitment-level crazy. I don't think he's faking this at all, I legitimately believe this man needs psychiatric intervention.

Had to gift this article because it's just so batshit insane that it NEEDS to be shared. If your dad or your brother started talking like this, you'd begin the process of secretly trying to get them help—even if it's the kind of 'help' they try to refuse. Just *batshit* lunacy on display here.
Inside billionaire Peter Thiel’s private lectures: Warnings of ‘the Antichrist’ and U.S. destruction
In leaked recordings of private lectures by tech billionaire Peter Thiel he argued that “the Antichrist” is likely to take the form of a critic of technology.

Three key points:
1) The admin has been planning mass firings to begin in October since February
2) The work necessary to carry out mass firings is illegal during a shutdown, violating the Antideficiency Act, which carries a criminal penalty
3) This harms America, ridding us of talent and expertise

You know, "Refusing to pay the troops, signaling that you intend to keep the government shut down indefinitely, and then trying to fight a trade war you literally cannot fight with the government shut down" is the stuff regimes do when they're pretty deep in a death spiral.

This is what dooms him in the end. Politics is a repeated game. Even under authoritarian conditions. People need to know that your behavior is going to be predictable in certain ways. Interests that would happily off on mass graves will eventually stop tolerating unreliability.

Credible commitments are the essence of dealmaking. Trump & Repubs cannot make credible commitments.

More and more people are saying that the Dems won the shutdown AND have used it to point out that OBBB stole American healthcare in a way that broke containment.

Independent C-SPAN caller to Rep. Mark Alford: "You're taking credit for $50b that you just gave to the hospital industry. That's after you took away $150b. You don't take credit for just giving back a little bit of money after taking away so much. So quit lying. It just makes you look horrible."

Very likely a violation of the Administrative Procedure Act. Unions will act pretty much immediately in court, I would think.

Also, if I were a Congressional Republican, I would be throwing all the ketchup on all the walls. The White House is fully committed to torching all good faith negotiations.

Lolol. Trump will never learn the incredibly important life lesson that shutting the fuck up is always free. This man will 100% talk us into a Black Tuesday-level event if shit continues on like this.

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."

I feel really bad for the people who are shipping important personal items because those are often irreplaceable, but the best anyone can do atm is make sure they go have a conversation with the folks at their local post office to make sure they know what they're doing first. 🤷🏻‍♂️

"We don't want to fill out the three extra pages of customs paperwork when we ship this," probably explains an absolutely huge amount of why this is happening, and customers here in the US simply aren't used to having to make sure that they're buying from someone who will.

Also, something I've recently found out through my new job is that a HUGE number of international sellers are simply refusing to comply with the additional paperwork that the end of the de minimis exemption now requires. You should *always* make sure your vendor confirms full compliance.

Lots of people extremely upset with UPS in the replies & QTs, but yes, they are absolutely required to destroy packages that customs won't clear. This is how it has *always* worked. Their reporting systems clearly need updating badly, but there's zero alternative on their end to destroying it.

Saw a couple of hammer-and-sickle losers (that I promptly blocked lol) absolutely losing their minds over the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize because any suggestion that Nicolas Maduro is, in fact, not a very special boy is something that they cannot emotionally process.

look, I think it's generally not helpful (or very smart, considering that the feds ALSO have access to social media) to share "tips" on what to do if you're caught in the crossfire of NLSWs & crowd control measures, but IF YOU DO, please listen to a *real* expert like Dan here and NOT BSky randos.

Use only water or fresh air on tear gas or pepper spray.

No milk, vinegar, antacids, urine, etc. and especially not in eye.

Thank me later,
