when *my* public defense clients try to plead not guilty and exercise their right to a trial, they get punished with heavier sentences or even being upcharged with more onerous felonies

I assume Richard is fine with it. Pleading “guilty or not guilty” is part of the due process system. And Richard has stated he wants her to have due process before being removed from DFL roles.
