I’m asking everyone to vote for a new Mayor by Tuesday and rank all 3 of Omar Fateh, Dewayne Davis, and Jazz Hampton in whichever order you prefer. I’ve worked at City Hall for the last 4 years and from my personal experiences I believe the City desperately needs a new mayor.

Long thread 🧵

When you see Doron move his arms like this, he is upset. He could just as easily flip a car, but he’s channeling that rage into protecting his neighbors.

We should all be like Doron and Elliott.
At 8 PM tonight another person was taken from Central Ave, with ICE leaving their cars hazardously all over endangering everyone just to kidnap a human being from our streets.

Afterwards, we helped escort a family home. They only had to walk 2 blocks to get home but yet prayed before we went.

ICE is making our community less safe.
Last night Maya announced they would be closed until further notice because they couldn’t guarantee the safety of their customers and staff due to ICE’s occupation of our City. ICE is actively making our neighborhoods less safe and hurting anchor businesses in our community like Maya.

ICE took someone in Waite Park today while they were delivering food to their family. ICE violently smashed their car on a residential street and then started pointing guns at children in the neighborhood.

One day of the ICE operation in Minneapolis — and the activists fighting it
The saturation of federal immigration enforcement has reoriented public life in the Twin Cities, especially for non-White residents.

Another person taken today from the quarry, leaving a wife and a young baby without support.

If you are vulnerable or at risk, please stay away from the quarry. Target and Home Depot parking lots have been staging sites for ICE with lots of activity.

Stay safe and stay vigilant.

This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

Thank you to these 2 and all the other heroes stepping up to keep our neighbors safe.
Two community members stand on the street corner of Central Ave and 18th St, watching over a local business in 5° temps with a wind chill of -15°. They are patrolling the area, keeping an eye out for ICE activity, doing what they can to protect their immigrant neighbors.

Another person taken today in Northeast. ICE left their car out in the road and pepper sprayed legal observers, directly violating a federal judge’s orders from earlier this week.

It’s not “inauthentic” to want our immigrant community to get direct support. You’re raising money off our community’s pain.

Here’s how to actually meet the moment:

–Support a housing fund
–Support a food drive
–Cover legal needs
–Tell DFL leadership to make caucuses virtual because it’s not safe
There may be a lot of known Minnesotans telling me - shockingly - I should not be supporting the DFL, but as someone who's run countering disinfo operations there have been dozens of inauthentic accounts in our discussion and that should make all of you "authentic" Minnesotans deeply uncomfortable.

Instead of going to Target, Cub Foods, and Corporate chains please support small and locally owned grocery stores in cultural corridors.

@elliottpayne.org, @kayforparks.bsky.social, and I heard from businesses today who are barley making it by. Some are already getting eviction letters.
The solidarity between our communities in Minneapolis has never been stronger. You can help by replacing your trips at Target and do your shopping at immigrant owned businesses on our cultural corridors instead.

We’re so proud of the way community showed up to protect our neighbors today. Just as a federal judge ruled last night, we know that observing and showing up for each other is not a crime. We need everyone to keep patrolling in the streets as we fight against the hate coming at us.

This is shockingly out of touch, please donate your money to the communities that are being attacked by masked federal agents.

Also, in-person precinct caucuses are a terrible idea, there are immigrant families who haven’t left their houses in weeks.
So friends, I launched a campaign to raise money for the Democratic Party of Minnesota (@dfl.org) to help them combat ICE's lawless assault. MN Dem Party Chair Richard Carlbom joined me for the kickoff. Learn more, donate, and let's rally for the courageous people of Minnesota, together! 👇

Here's a positive message about a politician: Council President Elliot Payne has been in the streets every single day working for his community. ICE even assaulted him for it. He leads by example, putting himself between ICE and the people even though he's at particular risk of harm as a Black man.
minneapolis city council president elliott payne is a leader who has always stood up for protecting his community. at the DFL somali caucus meeting last year, party chair richard carlbom talked about finding proud boy stickers in NE and how payne biked over to help tear them all down
