Let's be clear about what happened today.

Premier Smith introduced a bill to strip Albertans of Charter rights,

denied MLAs the opportunity to debate it and the courts the ability to scrutinize it,

and did all of this from her seat on a jet to Saudi Arabia.

If the govt can just dictate the terms of a contract—skipping past binding arbitration and legislating away recourse rights—and the public accepts that, well, then what reason would govt have to bargain in good faith with any public sector employees going forward?

If you go back to the 1950s, there were earnest debates around the world re: whether growing public funding of universities was a Good Thing because government might one day try to dictate what univesities could teach.

By the 90s this was considered laughable.

No one is laughing now.

Pierre Poilievre looks at this data and his takeaways are food inflation today is "70% above target" and the situation is "even worse than Trudeau".

You can judge how intellectually honest that is. But real solutions to real problems take more than rhetoric, gimmicks, and spin.
