I'm posting this to show my entitled kids later
Recently I've read a number of books and articles expressing net-nostalgia, about how better everything was online in the 90s. For those who missed it, let me explain how literature searches worked back then. Thread 👇

Kerry slug, native only to some parts of western Ireland, Spain, and Portugal, so one of our Lusitanian species.

Evidence that the biological colonisation of Ireland was largely from a western, Iberian origin? Or just later introductions by prehistoric people?

Truth is, we still don't know.

"Travel, exercise, personal appointments and other activities" 18 hours a week?

I never know they were included in the work day

This. Changes. Everything
I remember this Wall Street Journal graphic claiming that CEOs work 55 hour weeks, and maybe only 6 hours of it outside of meetings would be unambiguously considered work if they were in an entry level position.

35. Sometimes we get lucky - maybe luckier than we feel we deserve when we see how hard other people have it. Refusing that luck won't correct the universe. It's better to think of it like this: you can deserve it later. Luck and deserving aren't linear!

Interesting thread on how LLMs are not only ornagising the hcaotic wtirings of conspiracy theorists
But also functioning to validate their thinking 🤔
Bellingcat’s contact email has always been a magnet for people with fairly unusual views; paranoid delusions, sprawling conspiracies, the works. But recently, the pattern has shifted, we’re seeing more and more emails clearly written with ChatGPT.

Soundabout - I love it #SpeirGorm
There's a roundabout in Cork where even during the worst traffic, drivers unfailingly allow others to merge in a "zip" by local custom. Driving through it restores my faith in society, every time.

I just found out it's known as the "soundabout", and that's just wonderful.
