I would be very surprised if a full accounting in the future didn't reveal more than one mass grave at the detention centers. If they're behaving this way in public, what's happening out of sight must be many times more brutal.

I'm incredibly lucky in that my parents have been incredibly accepting of me, but when my little sister came out ~2011 (she came out first of three), she had to fight to get them to accept that she wasn't just making things up.
My dad's bi. He lost friends to AIDS. He did AIDS activism in the 80s.

I do have to point out that even with a more-accepting society, there is a gulf between "I am okay with queers" and "I am okay with my kid being a queer". People can support LGBT rights in the abstract and then get spooked when their own precious cinnamon roll makes them a "non-traditional family".

I'm torn between cynically noting that things in the OECD are getting worse, the optimism of someone whose undergraduate work was on how revolutions happen, knowing what he says about the wall is true, and frustration at having spent thirty-someodd years behind the wall, waiting for it to fall.

It appears to me that the Trump Doctrine is that Donald Trump cannot face justice in American courts, but any nation that can get their hands on him is free to charge him with whatever the hell they want.
