Another great thing @sifill.bsky.social said on Amicus podcast. We can’t draw circles around groups who we think don’t belong (I’m looking at you @governor.ca.gov).
We all belong or there is nothing to belong to.

I love listening to Sherrilyn explain things. (Right now on the Amicus pod with @dahlialithwick.bsky.social .) She said the civil rights movement was a democracy movement. Therefore, the backlash that has been going on ever since is an anti-democracy movement. Get motives out in the open.

Indigenous Australians now account for 29 per cent of all deaths in custody, a proportion higher than when the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody delivered its final report in 1991. satpa.pe/I1AKCqp
‘Increasing failure’: First Nations deaths in custody at record levels
More than three decades after the royal commission, calls are growing for the government to finally implement its recommendations, to stop the rising number of preventable deaths.

Ms. Rachel is an absolute hero. She’s gotten so much abuse for her extremely compassionate, humane - and in my opinion, common sense - views on children being hurt and killed in Gaza. But she’s not letting that silence her. Bless you Ms. R.

The welfare system isn’t just on fire, it’s burning out of control
The problem with having pattern recognition is that you can always see the fires before they start. Governments are a bit like that, too.  It’s not that they don’t see the fire before the smoke, it’s...

‘Particularly strange’: Ombudsman damns welfare compliance
In an interview with The Saturday Paper, the Commonwealth ombudsman says government departments still need to ‘unlearn’ the culture that produced robodebt.

One under-appreciated part of this: note the bit below about “and their dependents.”

Under the Trump admin’s new policy, dependent children of visa applicants are not allowed to have their social media set to private during the entire visa process. They MUST make their social media public.

But all that failed, so now he wasn't involved.
