This is not a "possibility," it is very, very obviously what's currently happening. The only reason people in power want to view it as a possibility rather than an ongoing fact is that they are scared of the implications. If it's the latter, they have to *do* something. History calls. It's scary!

On balance, I haven't been a big fan of the Abundance folks, but his association with CBS News sure makes my opinion of Derek Thompson drop several notches. Pity.

Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

Really great thread about what's going on in the Twin Cities.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Aurora in Las Vegas? Yup. Lots of folks further north will have prettier pictures, I'm sure, but these are cool. Dim aurora show up better in camera, but I'm pretty certain I could (barely) make them out naked eye. I'm astounded at how high they reach in the sky at this latitude.

It's cool that these guys just use pepper spray casually now, against people who are wholly within their rights, without a moment's hesitation. Several shots of them using it as they climb into their cars and drive away, not even a pretense of urgency or need. Just a parting "fuck you" to them.
This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

I finally got around to listening to this one. Nice work by Roberts pushing *hard* at places in this interview. We need all sorts of people pushing in all sorts of directions on the climate front, so I wish Ms. Haq all the luck in the world and hope her organization has every success. But, ... 1/
