It’s an especially odd approach given the visible shift toward Democrats on generic ballots for upcoming cycles. If they don’t a) need your votes to win and b) believe it will strengthen their coalition otherwise, you’re effectively neutralizing yourselves. Saying nothing would actually be fine!
I feel like a lot of people don't realize that "I'm unwilling to credit anyone who delivers on my primary political ask" isn't priming those people to say "how can we deliver more to the holdouts next time"
Fine next time you'll get nothing

Vis a vis opting out, I’d go further and say that the observable and often obscene financial benefit of holding and expressing strong views caused a lot of people to conclude that they were suckers if they didn’t at least try to benefit in some way from having an opinion about everything.
more seriously I think the main problem here is that mass media in general and social media specifically really, really broke the societal pressure valve of allowing the kind of latently prejudiced to sort of passively opt out of change. ragebait is fundamentally corrosive to social cohesion.

“Don’t make them hit you. They hate when you make them hit you.”
The answer is no, it's not the job of journalists to never criticise the left in case it drives Joe Lonsdale to be more sexist. You could just as easily argue that leftwing over-reach caused that and it would be better if it had been inhibited by more scrutiny. Reality is more complex than either.

Carlson has carried a chip on his shoulder since the early 90s when, despite his apparent pedigree, it was made clear that he’d never be fully accepted in the sort of right wing circles he felt he belonged. His entire life since has been one long revenge plot bereft of any actual principles.
it is incredible that tucker carlson, specifically, became an unambiguous nazi

A Palantir billionaire just called for public hangings.

“It's time to bring back masculine leadership to protect our most vulnerable,” writes Joe Lonsdale.

This is where Silicon Valley authoritarianism is heading:

To be fair, Jeffries is only continuing the longstanding tradition of Democratic leadership letting this guy do whatever the fuck in order to buy his votes.
OK yeah he's gonna switch parties.

Great job, Hakeem.

It makes a lot of sense when you consider that Nuzzi works for a magazine and RFK works for people who are stealing children and murdering fishermen.
Not to defend Olivia Nuzzi, who broke every rule in journalism and promoted a charlatan to his current position. But it's incredibly telling that she will lose her job, but RFK Jr. gets to stay in his job despite the reports of his drug use, his affairs and his defenestrating of public health.

You have to know how to hate.
It's almost impossible to make me feel sorry for Trump, but the sheer depth of his brokeness, combined with his age, the utter humiliation involved in this farce was making me legit sad.

This is absolutely the objective of the modern Republican Party and we should all be saying it out loud.
If birth in the United States does not confer citizenship, and if all citizen immigrants can be denaturalized by executive order, then literally no one in America has a guarantee of citizenship.

Every American’s citizenship becomes merely the revocable gift of the god-king.

This is one of the few exceptions to my opposition to capital punishment. When you’re given control of the deadliest military in history and knowingly and maliciously misuse that authority to commit capital crimes, it’s as much about showing your successors what happens to them if they follow suit.
"the government should try, convict and then kill the secretary of defense for the crime he very obviously seems to have committed" seems like a radical thing to say, but -- no, it's not. it's the actual penalty for what pete hegseth, a man who ordered death squads to murder civilians, has done.

You don’t get to be the Democratic candidate for President in 2028 if you aren’t promising to pack the court.
BREAKING: Supreme Court sides with Texas Republicans in fight over congressional map. The new gerrymandered map will be used in the 2026 midterms. The vote is 6–3, with the Republican appointees siding with Texas.

Oh, and feminists, you forgot feminists.

But, then, trans rights activists always neglect women, don't they?

Because they don't know what a woman is.

I would ask how they function but lol
One thing I leaned as a congressional staffer is that 75% of Congressmen are pretty much perpetually drunk. Just absolutely stupefying levels of rampant alcoholism. They fucking reek of booze, every day, all hours of the day.

*Trump* told us he was going to do most of the shit he’s done. Excepting the rash of threats to invade foreign countries, none of this was kept a secret!
Walking around like 'oh wow but who would have told us' and its like 'literally Kamala Harris told you everything htat has happened under Trump in her debates. If you watched the debates, you were explicitly told.'

There should be a concerted effort to relocate people who don’t want to remain in these areas, but we’re under no obligation to care for people who vote to destroy themselves so that Republicans can punish people they don’t like.

Prominent military scholars On Here have posited that this would negatively affect the military’s trust in its civilian oversight and my counterpoint is that every officer remotely adjacent to these acts should be terrified enough of what’s to come to consider fleeing the US in the next 3 years.
If Trump pardons him then the next administration should extradite him to the country whose citizens he has murdered. Let them them put him on trial, convict, and sentence him to whatever they believe is fair for the execution of their people.

I’m not saying Trumpism isn’t lousy with people who believe these things, but podcasts like this are basically pro wrestling promotions that profit from collective rage. It’s porn for people who like to get mad.
On “The Necessary Conversation” podcast, Chad’s Trump supporter parents tell him the military should follow Trump’s illegal orders and kill everyone in LA if Trump commanded it — even with him and his sister in the city😳

85% approval rating among Republicans as of today while the rest of the country is in the low 30s. Someone explain what I’m supposed to feel for these people if not contempt.
So one of my political sins that I know I should get over is that I do have the problem of holding Trump's base in contempt and looking down on them, and part of it is that my image of who they are is heavily informed by the one MAGA guy who shows up regularly on my FB feed; I'll call him J.
