It’s always good to see someone else post about this. I feel like I’m going crazy, like I’m on a solo crusade to inform folks of the psychological harm being done by things like video doorbells (especially the neighborhood-based social networks that come with them).

I have been calling these “murder” since the first one happened, so it’s not that I disagree.
I think the language choice is more interesting than just the implication about “enemy combatants” though.
The “war crimes” usage is coming from a need for a stronger word than just murder.

one of the problems I have with Democrats (and other critics) labeling these "war crimes" is that it accepts the underlying claim that the people being murdered are enemy combatants. They're not! it's just murder!
Fox News' Joey Jones justifies the US military killing survivors after an initial boat strike: "An enemy combatant does not have to have a gun to be a danger or a threat... if you leave anybody alive, they can signal and let others know what’s happening and they can also retaliate through radio."
