i'd love to see the government acknowledge how many adults are stuck in homes with emotionally/physically abusive parents bc of the housing crisis.

when we talk about adults living in box rooms there's very little recognition that these aren't all box rooms in homes with perfect family dynamics
It was only posted to Twitter, so I grabbed it before it (hopefully) gets deleted.

People need to understand that there is NO scientific way to determine whether someone around the age of 18 is actually over or under it. We are not trees, you cannot just count our rings.

I see the Indo has a story implying every young person assessed to be an adult is "actually an adult", sharing this story I did in 2022 when a child was told he's an adult and left to live with a bunch of men. When the story ran they accepted it was a mistake. www.dublininquirer.com/after-coming...

As someone once said, if the only punishment is a fine, it's only illegal for poor people.
I've begun to see the funny side of all this. "Okay, to be fair, we did wipe out the bald eagle by accident, but we're going to pay Peter Sweetman ten grand to make it legally fine."

Wtf is going on.

Under the guise of 'speeding the delivery of essential infrastructure', the government is going to basically remove the option of taking judicial reviews.

Very often, this is the only legal route communities have to defend local ecosystems against being destroyed.

Horrible story, and I hope those assholes are caught and dealt with

And while I certainly blame far right agitators, Facebook etc, and sleeveens like McGuirk/Gript for fomenting this kind of awful stuff, Simon Harris and others in government need to take a hard look at themselves and their rhetoric
Asylum seekers have told of how they were followed by men on motorcycles before being subjected to an alleged attack in rural Co Dublin yesterday.

The incident – which saw the young men beaten and their car windows smashed – has been condemned.

Jim O'Callaghan insists that every country can set it's own immigration policy, but wants to ensure that Ireland follows the UK in every awful decision it makes. An obsession with pull factors does not make for sensible policy, and the CTA is being used as a fig leaf:

The Minister for Justice has said Ireland will need to be "nimble" and may need to change its own laws and provisions in order to respond to proposed overhaul in UK asylum laws.

"My imaginary Attlee would never have done the thing that the real Attlee demonstrably, actually, did" is a very concise summary of the feckless, vacuous, delusional, reactionary shite that pours out of this idiot's gob.
🔴Glasman says Attlee and Bevan would “never have given the ECHR status in British law.”

🔴But Attlee signed and ratified the ECHR.

🔴Bevan fought for legal dignity, not executive impunity.

🔴Glasman is laundering authoritarianism with fake history.
