going by the decor, is this not TGI Fridays?
Someone on Twitter posted a photo of themselves doing a happy dance as they receive a hot plate of fajitas. Then "Raw Egg Nationalist" on Twitter retweets them, writing: It's incredible that these people exist, but they really do. These are the people who justify the demographic replacement of Western countries in terms of the variety of street food and how many different kinds of fried-meat-and-vegetables in flatbread they can buy.

this is the classic power move of a manager who works about an hour a day but wants to create the impression they are working from sunrise to sunset

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."

They keep working and usually they (and everyone else) gets back pay but they are not currently getting paid. The last time they past a carve out to pay military salaries while negotiating the rest of the budget and Dems have proposed doing that but GOP said no and they have not done it yet.

You did not hear about the federal government shut down?

Like, from a world historical perspective, simultaneously ordering a domestic military deployment and stopping payment of the military is a pretty funny move.

lol, here's some incredible college football content. In the hype video Oregon posted after Penn State, Dan Lanning lectures his team on broken windows theory, but it's pro-breaking windows.

"Each time we get a stop on defense, that's a broken window." www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwSH...
a screencap of Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning standing in front of a projector screen displaying a slideshow. The current slide has a headline "BROKEN WINDOWS THEORY."

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

This actually causes public harm because British people absolutely do not do bumper stickers etc on cars. I think this is basically a major crime to have this many stickers on a car in the UK.

Yer da’s been decorating the zafira
POV: you are stuck in London traffic behind a 2008 Vauxhall minivan adorned with various right wing slogans including “RIP LONDON KHAN AND STARMER GAVE FCUKED YOU! HONK IF YOU HATE EM!” & “Starmer stop the boats”. The license place is “RIP BE” and there are pictures of a demonic looking Keir Starmer and Sadiq Khan adorning the bumper and rear window. England and Union Jack flags fly from the rear windows

The Orphan Crusher is here to stay. If we don’t feed more Orphans to the Crusher the Orphan Crushing industry will die. It’s time to wake up to the reality of the Orphan Crusher. The Orphan Crusher is worth billions. We need to teach people to use the Orphan Crusher. It’s here to stay.

Like this is not exculpatory. Like seeking out and cultivating the specific brain rot that reinforces your biases and flatters your ignorances is still very bad.

A lot of people are replying to this saying that Johnson is being deliberately disingenuous here, which is possible, but it is also possible that he suffering from the same fix news brain rot incapacity to distinguish what makes you angry from what is important that any conservative uncle does.

The Speaker of the House has firm views that Bad Bunny is a terrible pick for singing at the Super Bowl, but hasn't had time to watch the President's speech to our military leadership or form an opinion whether furloughed federal workers should be paid or Illinois' governor should be thrown in jail.

9 of the nation’s smartest lawyers meet to determine whether the president is allowed to unilaterally raise taxes according to the “whatever you do, do not allow the president to unilaterally raise taxes” document.

To me, tariffs has to be the funniest one of these just on a, like, “if there was one thing the founders thought was the most important thing in the constitution” level. Like could not have been clearer who gets to raise taxes and who absolutely does not.

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.
