Sad signs of the times: the conference I’m attending next week telling everyone to keep their travel documents and conference badge on them at all times in the city due to ICE activity

i’m so sick of the way people feel entitled to cheap clothes. people are taking “no ethical consumption under capitalism” to mean “don’t blame me if there were slaves in the supply chain.”

clothes should cost money—the solution is that you need less clothes, and that you should be paying a lot more

I worked late and sadly didn’t get out while it was actively snowing but I still got to mush around a bit. Everyone who already shoveled is a hero and I hope their beds are extra comfy tonight but I do love the thick fresh snow underfoot

It’s still wild to me that ESPN covers PWHL in (albeit infrequent) articles and reports scores for so many sports (including chess!) but doesn’t have PWHL scores

I consider myself very lucky that I get to walk by the Weisman Art Museum every day. It is a beautiful and whimsical building that brings me joy. RIP Frank Gehry.

Poor St. Thomas 😭Taking a seeded team to 5 in the tournament is amazing but so heartbreaking

Some great memories here and many sunny afternoons that I don’t have specific memories of but I know were joyful. One of the places I actually saw people during the bad COVID years, the place where I said goodbye to my best friend before they moved away, and where I celebrated my golden birthday
Final update, Fair State Brewing is now done.

In high school we had to write a poem about a piece we studied in class and I chose Gehry’s Dancing House. I was so captivated by the building in a way I didn’t expect, and then on my UMN tour it was the biggest treat seeing the Weisman. I love how he saw movement in traditionally rigid structures
RIP Frank Gehry, architect and artist. Before this piece was moved to the Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis (Univ Minn campus), it was a prominent feature of the Walker Art Center sculpture garden. wam.umn.edu/fishstory

Our boy cat is usually pretty predictable, and then once every few months he’ll do something like jumping in the bathtub and knocking all our shampoo over and then he’ll never do it again

It shouldn’t surprise me anymore but each year I’m still blown away by how many people don’t understand the purpose of salt in clearing snow/ice. And then we end up with piles of salt and the sidewalks are still icy/snowy and everything has been made worse

Egg producers suspect bird flu is traveling through the air.

After a disastrous Midwestern outbreak early this year, we tested that theory and found that where the wind blew, the virus followed.

Vaccines could help, but the USDA hasn’t approved them.
