This is, pardon my French, insane:

"Stocks rallied off their session lows, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average hitting new all-time highs as investors shook off the Department of Justice opening a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell."

Yeah. The financial class (especially the billionaires) were all in a tizzy with claims of hyperinflation when Biden was President, but Trump trying to create the single thing most likely to blow up inflation—a politicized central bank juicing interest rates—produces crickets.
What can history teach us about what happens when a populist strongman with an idiosyncratic taste for low interest rates undermines central bank independence?

This is stunning. Listen to this in Philadelphia.

Thousands singing “Hey-Oh, we won’t be silent while our friends are gunned down.”

Really listen to it.

Honestly, so much of the anger (not all but much of it) directed at the NYT should go to the editorial side who direct the coverage, the placement, the attention, and the terrible headlines. Yet they get to hide while they put the reporters out front to get yelled at.
Copy editors and all other headline writers should have bylines so people can scream at whoever actually wrote the headline instead of the reporter(s) who wrote the story

These are amazing exchanges. A Times reporter hypes Trump’s deranged NYT interview by complaining about the access they got from Joe Biden and then when faced with what he’s admitting, he pretends he’s not saying what he’s saying.

Access journalism is cancer. Reporters shouldn’t be groupies.

This is the current front page of the Times. The Washington Post is even worse. Their headlines are privileging the accounts of the administration with a track record of lying as being as valid as eye witness accounts and videos.

It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

Comically over-lawyered and under-inspiring. Just resign, man. Take a lobbying job or something.

This is why Democrats look to a mayor like Zohran Mamdani for national leadership.

The president unilaterally decided to attack a sovereign nation and kidnap its leader, and now he says he's just going to run that county himself for a while too.

Call your representatives now and demand they impeach him.

The aging pedophile who wants to be a king has kidnapped the leader of a sovereign nation without congressional approval.

If the United States had an opposition party, they would treat this as an illegitimate act and start impeachment proceedings immediately.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Immediate post pandemic economy was *weird* in a way that made it hard to compare it to similar years.

But we've got low unemployment and low inflation now. Very hard to make the case that now is worse than the Volcker shock.
