Cool. Please make it two feet lower. I want a station wagon, not a bulldozer.

Ok, one more cool thing, the Foresters' expansion into Canada in the 1870s was led by Oronhyatekha, a Mohawk physician and scholar who was the first known aboriginal scholar at Oxford. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oronhya...

Looking up the history I found that "Membership was originally gained by combat, first with quarterstaffs, then with swords and finally with cudgels, until initiation by combat was abandoned in 1843." That seems like a very odd initiation for a "friendly" society. 2/2

I have an old life insurance policy with Foresters Financial, a company that originated from a British "Friendly Society" called the "Ancient Order of Foresters." It was a mutual aid organization founded to help care for working class sick and indigent folks. 1/2

I guess it's the level when we can ignore a massive conspiracy of Pervs.

Honestly just read the right hand side as "Perv Close"

An image of a trans person (who lives on the other side of the country) is circulating online because of a bunch of far right accounts on social media are claiming it's the Tumbler mass shooter. This individual had nothing to do with it.

These kind of lies get innocent LGBTQ+ people hurt or killed

Horrible news from Tumbler Ridge. My god 10 dead and 25 injured in a town of 3000.

I think doing anything with chickens would raise the difficulty well above “normal.”

You know who can also testify as to what was happening with Epstein and don’t need clemency?

His victims.

Not an exaggeration. We would ride our 10 speeds into the forest outside of town and camp for the weekend, cooking on an old oven grate over an open fire. At 12 years old! Our parents let us do that! I can’t imagine my kids doing it now but they also live in a big city, not a small mountain town.
Absolute truth. We’d drop our books and disappear into the cornfield, or the pine forest, or the hardwood jungle in the creek bottom. Total HUCK FINN wild roaming savages.

It. Was. Wonderful.

To your first point it makes me think of some Gen Z Tik Tok poster that was shocked Gen X’ers drank from the hose and someone replied “It’s because we weren’t allowed in the house!”

Also, there wasn’t anything to do at home once the Saturday morning cartoons were over. Now? Tons of stuff to do without leaving the house.

The current fashion for leading a party or being talked about leading a party while vocally backing policies that are anathema to your voter base is truly bizarre.

I’m finding it painful to watch CBC platform mostly conservatives to gush praise at former Prime Minister Stephen Harper (they’re releasing his archival collection) with almost zero commentary about the awful things he did while in power & around the world since. The selective amnesia is nauseating.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

I had to read Schmitt for a history course I took in the 90s and thought it was kind of weird that we were reading a Nazi jurist but for the last few years I’ve been, “Oh, that’s why we read that book.”
just idly remembering when i was assembling my dissertation for final submission in 2017 i was chided by one lovely professor at a conference, who felt my use of the phrase "the return of fascism" to describe the present moment was "alarmist"
