All of schools had big Samsung air purifiers provided in the early days of the pandemic. Unfortunately they’re now switched off, in cupboards or have been sold off.

It’s never ending, isn’t it? And so freaking avoidable.

This does my head in. As if sick kids are actually going to learn anything (while spreading disease to all of their peers). It's such flawed thinking.

Your kids are amazing. It's so hard and mentally exhausting to be the only maskers. I feel it as an adult so hats off to your kids. Mine will wear a mask when with us but not at school. My youngest was masking until entering HS this year and my eldest stopped 2 years ago.
pattyd.bsky.social
My kids primary and sec. schools had them and used to turn them on. Now they do nothing. At a minimum, it would be good if they could advise parents to keep their sick kids home. On top of C19, Flu & RSV (that we're not notifiedof), they've also had cases of CP, whooping cough & shingles. Cesspool.

The cruelty of saying “hospitals are ready” by increasing ICU beds and body bags… instead of fixing the ventilation.

Just mull over that for a bit #MedSky.
pattyd.bsky.social
For context, we mask everywhere but our kids will not mask at school. I don't blame them bc they are teens. I blame the @vicgovau.bsky.social & schools for dropping all mitigations despite the overwhelming evidence that viral illnesses are not good for children, have long-term neg effects.

One week back at school and my eldest has Flu A. This is after my youngest had it in August and then had RSV one month later in Sept. We have managed to avoid spread within our family but can do nothing about school. @vicgovau.bsky.social @VicGovDE this is not sustainable. Clean the air.

Unchecked airborne infections cost billions in lost health and productivity each year – likely more than the cost of better ventilation to clean up indoor air.
Why investment in clean indoor air is vital preparation for the pandemics and climate emergencies to come

The human and financial cost of respiratory infections is colossal, with an estimated cost of influenza at US$11.2 billion in the United States alone.

For respiratory infections other than influenza, the yearly cost (in the US) stands at $40 billion.

A program in Flint, MI, gave $1,500 to any/all pregnant people and $500/month for the first year of their infant’s life.

Among the benefits, those babies experienced lower rates of prematurity and low birth weight, which resulted in fewer NICU admissions, saving the city of Flint $6.2 million/year.

Disney owns ABC, and they're pulling Jimmy Kimmel off the air for criticizing MAGA. Disney will market truth and justice via Marvel and Star Wars, then bend right over for fascists in real life. Next time you watch Andor or Daredevil, know that it's all bullshit.

People who get shingles within a year of Covid have doubled reinfection risk and 67 % higher heart attack odds

Researchers report shingles reactivation is increasingly seen in people who have had COVID-19, driven by the "immune dysregulation" that follows viral infections.

Australian COVID-19 weekly stats update:

The risk estimate ticked back up marginally to 0.6% “Currently Infectious”, or 1-in-162.

That implies a 17% chance that someone is infectious in a group of 30.
