this may be a radical take BUT I think we should proceed cautiously with the rushed integration of half-cooked automation into problematic business sectors in a broadly-corrupt country without functional regulatory oversight

this is a subject that's near and dear to my heart

1. no you didn't, you retconning fucks

2. your decades of anti-governance "free market" "government never functions" propaganda paved the way for the complete authoritarian decimation of labor, consumer, environmental protections

This week Section 230 turned 30, and you'll see a bunch of posts on Techdirt today and the rest of the week about the importance of Section 230, but my first contribution this week is how the arguments against 230 are so contradictory that it should give everyone pause to consider why.

250 years ago New England officers knew that allowing natural infections was not safe so they asked for the available preventative treatment. Now many of the populace get it backwards, regression to increased suffering :-(
“Some of the New England officers, not having had the small pox, petitioned the General for permission to be inoculated, which he granted and assigned them a separate room; and they were allowed to walk in the entry two at a time for fresh air and exercise." 2/2

Very accurate 🧵
Everyone is shitting on the Post for implying that Bad Bunny, from Puerto Rico, is a “immigrant,” not an American citizen. But WaPo is actually being honest about the Trumpist immigration agenda, for which dutifully if dully supports. The Trumpist agenda is white nationalist.

The Super Bowl halftime show, with Bad Bunny showcasing Latin music before a global television audience expected to top 100 million, will illustrate the nation’s immigration divide whether or not the reggaeton star delivers an explicit political message.

I don’t want to depress you all but the entire media and political class will have moved on from this latest Trump racist outburst by tomorrow, Monday at the very latest. He gets away with it every time - because he is allowed to get away with it, and because he floods the zone.

Backdoor in Notepad++
Hackers associated with the Chinese government used a Trojaned version of Notepad++ to deliver malware to selected users. Notepad++ said that officials with the unnamed provider hosting the update infrastructure consulted with incident responders and found that it remained compromised until September 2. Even then, the attackers maintained credentials to the internal services until December 2, a capability that allowed them to continue redirecting selected update traffic to malicious servers.
