Apparently NSW Forestry is planning on finally making a profit - one it can't make from logging - by not logging forests it currently holds captive and claiming that as an offset for somewhere else beig put to the bulldozer. A system that always creates net deficits for nature.

This is why for a long time I've found the Prime Minister's Prizes for Science a rather insulting propaganda exercise

www.abc.net.au/news/science...

CSIRO funding as a percentage of GDP:

1982-83 = 0.17

2024-25 = 0.03

...

Scientific extinction event imminent?
The CSIRO cuts are just the tip of the iceberg for Australia's science funding
Australia is known as a country of innovators, but with a combination of brain drain, continuous cuts, and a loss of critical science projects, is Australia losing its edge?

So let me get this straight.

Rather than fix the court system, something that both New Labour & the Tories claim to love...

They're going to remove one of the most ancient privileges you have, something this country is famous for. Trial by jury.

They're also taking away your right to appeal

While RFK Jr spreads conspiracies, California will stick to science.
Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.
RFK Jr. Says He Instructed CDC to Change Vaccines and Autism Language on Website
In an interview, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. cited gaps in vaccine safety research. His critics say he is ignoring a larger point: Vaccines save lives.

David Lammy sets about rewriting Common Law and an attempt to remove the right to trial by jury.

is anyone out there clamouring for this?

fuck, it strikes directly at Habeus Corpus. we're right back to Star Chamber trials.

no. just no. this cannot happen.

is he really still saying this?

at what point do his most clueless supporters finally realise he simply tells lies.

and at what point does Biden stop being the cause of every problem in the US?
Trump lies: "Gasoline will soon be hovering around $2 a gallon"

otherwise known as a "lie".
Turns out the deal Trump bragged about, the one where China would buy 12 million metric tons of US soybeans by year end, was never an actual deal.

It was a “concept” of a deal.

BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

a very disturbing article. the Australian government appears to think that the survival of native australian species, flora and fauna, can be subject to "offsets" - even financial ones - if the species' habitat needs to be destroyed to make way for some mine/development/whatever.

reprehensible.
As if carbon offsets weren’t a big enough fraud…welcome to the world of ‘biodiversity offsets’…sure the idea failed dismally in NSW but Murray Watt is keen to have a crack…

what could go wrong?

Just even more extinctions i suppose…#climate #nature

How many extra possums does it take to compensate for a dead platypus?
That’s the kind of calculation a bureaucrat would literally have to make under Environment Minister Murray Watt’s new ‘environmental laws’.
