There's this HUGE middle ground between "American citizens" and "those here illegally." Which are people here legally but not citizens. And THAT'S the scandal here. She is beyond cynical and nihilistic and evil, but she's not unclever.
The huge hurdle Johnson and the R's have is that everyone assumes the D's favor food assistance and the R's don't. Which is also correct, but that isn't the point. The median voter is just not going to believe - ever - that it's the D's who are denying food benefits and doubling health costs.
Seems pretty clear they're slowly leaving social media (albeit very slowly). Certainly young people are. Important to note that the data is from ANES, which iirc is conducted after each presidential election and is subject to the same error as any poll.
Happening now: Hakeem Jeffries holds a press conference with Rev. William Barber and others, decrying cuts to healthcare and voicing concerns about expiring SNAP benefits.
Jeffries calls healthcare cuts “policy violence.”
Barber says they asked Johnson for a meeting, but he was “too busy”
Important to note that the data source is ANES, a poll. The paper does not attempt to determine the ideology of posters from their posts (it just asks them). Doesn't surprise me that young people are slowly removing themselves from social media. I see that increasingly now.
Most likely an AI bot that randomly picks a prominent account and is programmed to post provocative, flamey responses that inspire outrage. Could be just to generate hits, but could also easily be a GOP troll bot (or both). There are a fair number of the latter over here.
No, it's better to allow yourself to be outraged when bad things happen, instead of trying to psychologically compensate by expecting everything. You're much more effective as an advocate that way.
It proves nothing because it's an internal poll at a stage when all that's being measured is name ID (basically a fundraising poll). Why is this hard to understand? The poll didn't contradict my opinion at all.
Stop it! Literally all you are doing is normalizing and socializing a fever dream, making it MORE likely to somehow happen. All in the pursuit of being more savvily doomer than the next guys. For the sake of everything that is good, quit this shit. Step up and stop surrendering the Overton Window.
There is no "trust." What they mean is Trump needs to agree to sign something with the Dems' demand taken care of. They won't accept "we'll give you a vote later," not on the core demands.
I find this the most unintentionally significant thing anyone in the Admin has said all year. Seems pretty clear the minders who keep him propped upright have been discussing giving grandpa something to do for a long time, and hit on the ballroom in a moment of inspiration.
