I don't really buy the zero sum comp/casual nonsense; the words written in the text boxes these days are completely fine.
Magic isn't worse because of Commander, it's worse because there are twice as many cards and they all cost twice as much and half of them are a shitty reference to a TV show.

Nah man a big part of why the UB stuff makes me sad is cause I know it's extremely popular so they're going to keep doing it despite it making the parts of the game I deeply care about worse. Like I know a bunch of people are going to buy the 6th marvel set but that doesn't make my FNM fire.
Hearing the conversations around the con, I think heavily enfranchised online folks significantly overestimate how much their opinions on Universes Beyond are shared by the wider player base.
This is not a value judgment of any opinion in particular: just being reminded of that myself, too.
