The Big Bad Wolf is here! A high-octane, noir-inspired mystery with a fairytale twist, for readers aged 7 to 107. Wonderful cover (and an internal map) by George Ermos. Out TODAY! Order your copy here: www.pgbellwriter.com/where-to-buy/ #KidLitUK #KidLit
The cover for The Big Bad Wolf Murder. It shows a young girl in a red tracksuit and a young wolf boy in a green t-shirt, hiding behind a thick tree trunk. The grinning silhouette of a large, scary looking wolf, menaces them from behind the tree.

I've met some truly lovely children's authors, organisers and - most importantly - young readers at the Isle of Wight Literary Festival. @iowlf.bsky.social
An Isle of Wight Literary Festival lanyard, labelled P G Bell School Author P.G. Bell, as good looking as ever, but this time with the added bonus of a blue newsboy cap (he bought it on impulse, is still in two minds about it, and is trying it out), standing in a school hall in front of a projector screen with his own grinning mug on it. A view across the Isle of Wight coast, with a sweeping bay leading to undulating white cliffs in the distance. Waves crash on the sandy shore and the sky is a dazzling blue. A view from the window of the Villa Rothsay, looking across the Solent to England. A ferry is cutting through the steel-grey waters.

Oh, and Oddity, also on Shudder, if you're after something pared down and creepy.

Have you seen Last Cut of the Dead? Tremendous. And the new VHS Halloween just dropped. Not seen it yet, but the VHS series has been reliably entertaining thus far.

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

I'm taking The Big Bad Wolf Murder to the Isle of Wight Literary Festival for two days of school events. I'm told there's a posh dinner in store too. Have packed a (rather dusty) tie. #KidLit #KidLitUK

My first ever book (& the first in a series of 4 books once described as "Raymond Chandler for 7 year olds") is currently awaiting reprint & I think it might help if you were ALL to order one today. Cheers.

UK authors submitting claims for the Anthropic civil case; what are you putting in the "Routing Number" field when you're telling them how to pay you? My bank says that we in the UK don't actually have routing numbers! But I don't want to just make one up.
A screenshot of an electronic form. The field reads "Routing Number".

The Big Bad Wolf Murder tour took me to Norwich yesterday. Hugely fun visits to local schools with Norwich Children's Book Centre; loads of enthusiastic kids who asked brilliant questions and took home a load of books. #KidLit #KidLitUK
The author P.G. Bell, looking wise and commanding and bald (but in a sexy way), raises his arms as he stands in front of a projection screen featuring the cover of The Big Bad Wolf Murder. He's wearing his new shirt. Y'know, the nice one with the blue and white chequered pattern. Several tables covered in copies of The Big Bad Wolf Murder stacked several deep. P G. Bell, still in the nice shirt, stands before a school hall filled with attentive children. They adore him. He's their hero, probably. P G. Bell, the platonic ideal of a children's author, reads from his book, The Big Bad Wolf Murder, in front of some school children. Let's assume they're loving every second.

Special thanks to Chris and Kate, and the staff at Sprowston and Dussindale Primary Schools for making me so welcome, and for ensuring that everything ran like clockwork. It was my first visit to Norwich in six years and I loved it.

We used to get videos and images from people who liked making videos and images. AI means we can now get them from people who dislike making videos and images. This doesn’t feel like an improvement.

Yes, there are shreds of hope in there, thank goodness.

Very much this.

Any sales track for an author should factor in what the publisher did/didn't do to market the book and what luck factors were involved eg awards/book of the month. Historical sales aren't useful info without context of other factors.

I spent the summer reporting this essay on why it seems harder than ever to sell a book right now—especially if it isn't a debut and comes with the dreaded "sales track." I'm grateful to the writers, agents, editors, publishers & experts who spoke to me for this piece: thewalrus.ca/the-publishi...
