Awards and shinies are wonderful (congrats to the ALA honors and winners today), but far more important is how a book connects with a reader, challenges them, encourages them, makes them curious, makes them dream, gives them comfort or insight or ambition. Write for the reader, not the accolade.

Absolutely nothing better than when you get a note saying that your editor is giving one of their lightest structural edits ever 🎉 I've worked really hard on structure and pacing over the years, and I'm glad to see it's paying off
