Are arts and non-profit institutions spending resources on grants and philanthropy any different from the unhoused person holding out a cup to passerbys?
Should that be an ok thing not only at an individual level but at an institutional level? Should this be considered a basic duty of government?

I was telling one of my kids that it was physically impossible for an ad to play between songs on any of the records I own, and they asked "and you only have to pay for it once?" and you could see how strange that seemed. You cannot overstate how many basic rules of media consumption have changed.

Bill Watterson is my favorite cartoonist. I adored the relationship btw Calvin and Hobbes as a child. But as I've gotten older, these strips feel even more tender and insightful. My respect for him grew when I learned of his stance against merchandising. Such principles are almost unheard of today.

As someone who studies political categories, it is interesting that Peter Malinauskas has placed the category ‘far-right Zionist’ into circulation.
Would help if he explained who inhabits this category of people that ought not to be invited/tolerated.
