My parents were uneducated but very high IQ, and yet there’s a direct line between their lack of awareness and experience with grad school and the end of my academic career. (Mom’s *only* advice for me after getting my BA in 1990 was to, “Get a job as a secretary.”)

Good grief. “Sir” and “ma’am” are widely used as a polite honorific in many parts of the country. (It’s one of the things I had to adjust to when moving east, from Calif., so I can understand how it may sound jarring. Even so, this is a silly criticism. Suggest saving your venom for the bad guys.)

Professional services firms who make shit-tons of money need to stop acting like federal bureaucracies, with their repetitive requests for forms and shitty UX platforms. This GenXer is getting tried AF of copying and pasting new codes proving that I exist and am worthy.
