A full-stack writer. Forget seven days, whoever heard of someone trying to create an entire world in only their spare time? Actually, that might explain a few things... #teowad #scifi #fantasy #chaostheory #humour #heart https://teowad.co.uk

Also... In the meantime, here's another style of advert I've been working on to publicise the book —once it's fully available.

I think it has the right mix of silly-seriousness/small-to-grandness (or perhaps vice versa).

But I might also be off my rocker.

Let me know what you think.

#BookSky
Then... I can get back to the fun part of finishing off:

- Episode 2
- Episode 3

And... a prequel novella I plotted out last weekend that I'm going to call:

- Worth & Distance : The Red Dress Fiasco

Does anyone know if there are many comedies set around complimentary security reviews??

#BookSky
Can I get #teowad:ep1 down to 100k words?...

I doubt it.

But I think 110k is probably okay, and I'm not too far off that now. Just need to go back over one more time and tighten some of the longer scenes.

Then will come the dreaded typesetting per format. 🫣

And finally, publishing. 🙌 🎉 😌 📖 🔜 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 🫠
It also helps to know that there are authors out there with far more massive books than myself.

Eventually, when all is said & done, I'd like to recombine #teowad into one book—like it was supposed to be. But I can only do that once readers trust me, and I've learned the art of editing 300k+ words.
Now I'm going to prevaricate, or... procrastinate? Or... pontificate??

It's one of those words beginning with P which means I get to go and feel better about myself by watching Sanderson's lectures and realise that there are people out there like me.

It makes everything feel less remote.
Ok, story so far:

- ✅ I've lessened the learning curve of #teowad. 🙌
- ✅ I've introduced certain world building in a succinct manner (similar to how I've done elsewhere).
- ✅ I've covered planets, materials and cameras.
- ❌ Sadly, I've not covered BankAds.
- 🤦‍♀️ I reduced by 4k words, then added 2k?!
Oh my word. Good question. Yes! Any scenes involving the PoliceGuard where they have to operate like the PoliceGuard, until I've put in enough excuses for them to not be so rigid. Trying to make those scenes interesting (without explosions) was tricky —but they helped me grow as a writer, 1000%.

Is there a scene that you really struggled to write? Why?

Just have to say, I really enjoy your writing style in these snippets. I don't often like first person (just me being odd), but these flow very well and have interesting shape!
Now feeling like I should confabulate a yet-to-be-written scene involving a hidden away emporium, just off Latium's MarketQuarter. One holding all the trappings of a Venetian costume purveyor, on a wind swept day.

No idea why the last part, wind is probably terrible for masks, especially TonalWind.
Jumping Jigawatts! There's no 'costume' across all 3 books? Let's use dress instead.

"Hey, oh come on!" She exclaimed. "Don't talk to me about professional, or should I mention the 'Red Dress Fiasco' once again??" She glared over her glasses.

Absolutely! The sheer power of trial and error is awesome, if you have the time to wield it...

Personally, I more align to Distance's way, but that usually leaves me still calculating my next step when the rest of existence has moved on.

The best approach, of course, is all three working together.
Distance would probably decide to start from scratch, potentially building her own compendium given half a chance... Or, she'd go run things past Elodie.

Webb would rely on the PoliceGuard archives, and her squad.

Worth would likely keep trying to guess until he gets it right, or reality gives up.
I know, I'm getting ahead of myself…

But sometimes that's the only way you can see what's coming next. Unfortunately, I still have yet to work out how to communicate any useful warnings back to my past or present self…

The last message I got simply said 'watch this space'?!

That's good to hear, thank you. And yes, some of my characters do need distance as they are revealed. So, I think I'll stick with it. I guess I'll have to see if people like the style or not. But hopefully.

Can only truly find out once it is published. Looking forward to getting it out there.
I think I'll stick with what you say, it was my thinking too. But wondered if I was misaligned or perhaps being arrogant.

I've read numerous older books in this style, so it threw me a little to find perhaps it was something no longer common. I admit I haven't read much that's new recently however.
Thank you for the feedback, Steph, much appreciated!

Yes, it was put forward as a potential option, not an absolute must. But I would say it does feel like something that's more personal choice than anything.

For now I'm focusing on the more actionable feedback, and will see where that gets me.
As when thinking, I have background thoughts and I have foreground thoughts.

Part of me feels that this is more of a driven shift towards the popularity of first person narrative (something I find very odd to read).

But perhaps I'm wrong, maybe it makes it more immersive?

Any advice out there?
I've just switched over some test scenes, and I must say it reads VERY weirdly.

Am I just old fashioned?

I actually liked the fact you could have three layers to your perspective.

- character narration
- character direct thoughts
- character speech and actions

This to me feels more like reality.
Some feedback from my editor was optionally move away from:

- Italicised tagged thoughts ("he thought").

Which I've been used to all my life, over to:

- Modern convention (esp. in limited third-person) treats the narration itself as the character's experience and thoughts.

Context Note: Worth has never liked hats. Mostly because they don't seem to like him very much. But also, because nearly every single hat he has ever owned or attempted to wear, always, ALWAYS, looks better on Distance.

What is it about music that it can keep you going way beyond?

So much of my writing would never exist without it.

Thank you #music, hopefully you're out there listening...

Think I've successfully wrangled 1500 words of world building exposition down to 500 of narrative. 😌

Just realised I've enough content after TEOWAD's EP1, EP2 & EP3 to create a prequel novella. I swear I didn't do this on purpose, but the scenes kind of thread together to create a Worth & Distance security-remit comedy.

And now I've just come up with a plot..

*sigh*

I need more time!

#amwriting
Is this a vibe or a synonym? ... vibonym?

"I know what you're like!" Worth added with a smile and a shake of his head, "given half a /chance/ you'd have the sandwich toaster hooked up to some kind of experiment."

Ok, challenge set, one new scene to do the following:

- Lessen the learning curve of #teowad.
- Introduce early world building in a succinct manner, threaded into narrative, covering: Planetary alignment, Camera tech, Material science & Bank Adverts.

Oh & reduce word count by 8k words.

#amwriting
But truly, the final feeling, the total vibe that I'm going for —across the whole series— is.

Huh?
Oh, okay then... Are you sure?
Let's take a step back and... DON'T F... fall... over that cliff.
/Jeeesh/ Lucky you packed that! Otherwise this would be a VERY different story.

#teowad
Then there's the side themes:

- 🏠 What defines a room?
- 🪴 Where should people stand on cruelty to pot plants?
- 🎒 How much is too much to pack or carry for just-in-case situations?
- ⚡ Should people with great responsibility have such large energy bills?!?
